The Cleveland Browns open their NFL season on Sunday, but Joe Flacco and Shedeur Sanders will be paying close attention to a game on Saturday.
Flacco played college football at Delaware while Sanders played at Colorado. Delaware is on the road to play the Buffaloes on Saturday, and the two quarterbacks have a bet on the game.
Teammates often make bets when their colleges play, and some punishments are wearing the opposing team’s gear during media. However, what Sanders and Flacco’s bet is, is uncertain, but Colorado coach Deion Sanders confirmed there is a bet made.
“I’m not supposed to say this, but I will. Joe and Shedeur have something on this game,” Sanders said on the Colorado Football Coaches Show.
Sanders wouldn’t reveal what the bet is, but did confirm Flacco and Sanders will be watching the game. The two have also been trash-talking one another ahead of the Delaware-Colorado matchup on Saturday.
The Buffaloes are a massive 23.5-point favorite to defeat Delaware at home on Saturday. But, despite that, Flacco is still confident in his alma mater that he made the bet with Sanders on the game.
Deion Sanders Praises Shedeur After Recent Comments
It was a difficult week for the Sanders family a week ago.
Colorado lost their Week 1 game against Georgia Tech, while Shilo Sanders was released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After the hard week, Shedeur sent a text message to Deion and Shilo after the hard week.
“As SANDERS MEN we have to regroup,” Shedeur wrote.
After Shedeur’s message, Deion praised his son for the positive message to him and Shilo after the hard week.
“That’s what I love about Shedeur,” Deion said. “He sees the big picture. He knows we don’t have time to dwell, we regroup, we adjust, and we move forward. That’s what being a Sanders man is about.”
As for Shedeur, he will be the Browns‘ third-string quarterback in Week 1 as Cleveland hosts the Cincinnati Bengals. He will be inactive but will still dress as the emergency third-string quarterback.
Flacco Enjoyed Sanders Playing For the Browns
Flacco is entering his 18th NFL season as he will be the Browns‘ starting quarterback in 2025.
The veteran quarterback will serve as a mentor to Dillon Gabriel and Sanders, and he showed that during training camp and preseason. When Sanders got into a preseason game, Flacco was thrilled to watch and was excited for Sanders.
“Oh, it’ll be interesting. I think we’ll all be sitting there watching and be excited for football to be going real time. And I think he’s probably excited about that too,” Flacco said. “I mean, your first time to go in the NFL, I remember mine. I didn’t get to play until the last two minutes of the game, but it’s something that he’ll remember forever. Most of us have dreamt about this moment since were five, six, seven, eight-years old. So, for him to get a chance to go out there and actually take the field, even though it’s preseason we’re all going to be on the sidelines enjoying it.”
Although Flacco is the starter, all expectations are that Sanders and Dillon Gabriel will see game action at some point this season.
