No player on the Dallas Cowboys has thrilled more in the preseason than undrafted free agent rookie wide receiver Camden Brown.
According to ESPN’s Todd Archer, Brown is 1 week away from reaping the benefits of his great outings, with him predicted to make the 53-man roster — Archer’s final roster predictions before the NFL’s cutoff deadline on August 30.
Archer’s model has the Cowboys keep 6 wide receivers: CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens, Ryan Flournoy, KaVontae Turpin, Jonathan Mingo, and Brown.
“The top four have been a given,” Archer wrote on August 24. “The last two have been in a state of flux. Brown, undrafted out of Georgia Southern, was able to take to the game what he did in practice. Mingo has earned his way into the mix with a solid summer performance.”
Camden Brown’s Transfer Lifted Him Into NFL
Brown, 6-foot-2 and 204 pounds, played high school football for powerhouse St. Thomas Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, before flipping on a commitment to Pitt to sign with Auburn.
After 3 unproductive seasons at Auburn, Brown transferred to Georgia Southern for his final college season in 2025 and had a breakout year with 65 receptions for 1,079 yards and 14 touchdowns and was named All-Sun Belt Conference.
NFL Draft analyst Lance Zierlein predicted Brown would be a priority free agent after he ran the 40-yard dash in a relatively slow — for an NFL wide receiver — 4.59 seconds at Pro Day.
“After three unproductive years at Auburn, Brown put his impressive ball skills on display during a very productive season at Georgia Southern,” Zierlein wrote in his pre-draft evaluation. “He lacks top-end speed and attention to detail as a route-runner. He does, however, have access to good initial burst and wins when contested at an elite rate. Brown displays ideal ball skills and body control on fades and deep throws. He catches with good hand extension. Despite his strong 2025 season at Georgia Southern, Brown’s lack of production against SEC competition during his time at Auburn could create doubt for some teams.”

The Cowboys are pretty set at wide receiver, where a pair of NFL All-Pros at the top of the depth chart form the league’s best wide receiver duo with Pickens and Lamb.
For as good as those 2 have been, they haven’t always been the most reliable in terms of off-field behavior. In 1 embarrassing moment in the 2025 season — the Cowboys’ 2nd consecutive year missing the playoffs — both Pickens and Lamb were benched to start a road game against the Las Vegas Raiders after missing team curfew.
“Cowboys WRs CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens spent Dallas’ opening series on the bench,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter wrote on his official X account.
“Breaking: CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens both weren’t on the field AT ALL in Dallas’ first drive,” Sleeper HQ’s Arye Pulli wrote on his official X account. “Cowboys PR told the broadcast that it was a coaches decision. Seems disciplinary.”
“It was a coach’s decision to have Cowboys WRs CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens miss the first series,” The Fort Worth Star Telegram’s Nick Harris wrote on his official X account. “It was not injury related. As it was communicated to me, ‘they missed some things.’”
