The Bears are trading a fourth-round pick to the Chiefs for Thuney, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. The Bears recently agreed to a deal for Rams G Jonah Jackson, who previously played for the Lions under new Bears head coach Ben Johnson. While Jackson is coming off a disappointing season with the Rams after signing a huge contract, Thuney remains universally regarded as one of the best and most consistent guards in the league. The 32-year-old even played left tackle when the need arose in Kansas City during the stretch run of this past season, although he struggled in the Super Bowl after mostly proving up to the task. Thuney likely will play left guard in Chicago, where returning starter Teven Jenkins (calf) is scheduled for free agency after completing his rookie contract. Trades can't be made official until the start of the 2025 league year next Wednesday (March 12).

Latest Chiefs News
Joe Thuney : Traded to Chicago
Trey Smith : Assigned franchise tag
The Chiefs assigned the non-exclusive franchise tag to Smith on Friday. Smith will be on the books for $23.402 million in 2025 unless the two sides are able to come to terms on a long-term extension before July's deadline. By placing the franchise tag on Smith, it keeps him away from free agency and buys the Chiefs more time to try and work out a potential multi-year deal. Smith turns 26 years old in June and has missed just one start since entering the league. He was a member of the 2021 All-Rookie team and was selected to his first Pro Bowl this past season.
Trey Smith : Will be franchise tagged
The Chiefs plan to place the franchise tag on Smith this offseason, NFL.com reports. Smith was expected to be the top guard available in free agency this offseason, but the Chiefs will instead retain a key to their offensive line. While the franchise tag will ensure Smith doesn't hit free agency, the team is still hoping to work out a long-term deal.
Travis Kelce : Confirms return for 13th season
Kelce confirmed via social media that he will play in 2025. Kelce had stated after the Super Bowl loss to the Eagles that he hadn't yet decided whether he'd continue his playing career for a 13th pro season, but Chiefs GM Brett Veach said at the NFL Scouting Combine this week that he expected the veteran tight end to return for another year. Kelce has now confirmed it and will formally announce it on his New Heights podcast this week. Kelce will turn 36 years old in October and is certainly slowing down at this stage of his career, but he's ready to give it another run with Kansas City. It will be interesting to see what his role looks like in 2025, especially with Rashee Rice (knee) due back to full health as the Chiefs' power slot receiver and the anticipated leap of Xavier Worthy in his second season following a big stretch run and postseason. Kelce's days as an elite fantasy tight end are likely over.
Marquise Brown : Wanted back by Kansas City
Chiefs general manager Brett Veach said Tuesday at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine that the team "will look to get [Brown] back," Sam McDowell of The Kansas City Star reports. Brown, who missed the first 15 weeks of the 2024 season due to a sternoclavicular joint injury sustained during Kansas City's preseason opener, is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent at the start of the new league year March 12. He combined for just 50 yards on five catches (13 targets) across three postseason appearances, but did post 91 yards on nine catches (15 targets) across his two regular-season games. Still heading into just his age-28 season, re-signing with the Chiefs could be Brown's most ideal scenario to retain notable fantasy value for the 2025 campaign. At 100 percent form, Brown's skillset as a vertical threat seemingly makes him an ideal playmaker to pair with quarterback Patrick Mahomes, though Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice (knee) will project to lead the Chiefs' wide receiver corps, in any case.
Travis Kelce : Leaning toward return?
Chiefs general manager Brett Veach said Tuesday that Kelce is "fired up" about playing in 2025, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Veach said that as "we left it, [Kelce would] be back and we're excited to get him back and get him going." Head coach Andy Reid, however, indicated Tuesday that things are more up-in-the-air, per Nate Taylor of The Athletic, saying he advised Kelce to "get out of town and relax" before making a decision about his playing future. The 35-year-old tight end is heading into the final year of his contract with the Chiefs, and he carries a 19.8 million cap hit for the 2025 season. Despite declining in terms of both yards and touchdowns in his 12th season, Kelce's 97-823-3 receiving line across 16 regular-season appearances made him one of the league's most productive tight ends in 2024.
Josh Uche : Mixed bag season in 2024
Uche finished the 2024 season with 23 total tackles (17 solo), including 2.0 sacks, over 13 regular-season games with the Patriots and Chiefs. Uche was dealt to Kansas City in late October after spending the first four-plus seasons of his career with the Patriots. The defensive end was limited to just 2.0 sacks this season, his lowest total since his rookie season in 2020. Uche will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason, potentially looking to join a new team, though sticking around Kansas City isn't usually a bad idea.
Mike Pennel : Returns to form in 2024
Pennel finished the 2024 season with 25 total tackles (10 solo), including 3.0 sacks, while also recording a forced fumble over 17 regular-season games. Pennel returned to operate in a weekly role with Kansas City in 2024 after spending the majority of the 2023 campaign on the team's practice squad and appearing in just three regular-season games. The defensive tackle was able to compile a career-high 3.0 sacks this season, and he'll enter the offseason as an unrestricted free agent.
