The Rays signed Sabol to a minor-league contract Wednesday that includes an invitation to spring training, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Sabol spent nearly all of the 2025 season at the Triple-A level, slashing just .183/.296/.326 between the Red Sox and White Sox organizations. The 28-year-old is likely to begin the 2026 campaign at Triple-A Durham, where he'd provide versatile depth with the ability to play catcher, first base and left field.
The White Sox acquired Sabol from the Red Sox on Saturday in exchange for cash. Sabol is expected to report to Triple-A Charlotte, where he'll bolster the organization's catching depth after prospects Kyle Teel and Edgar Quero were both promoted to the big leagues earlier this season. The 27-year-old Sabol has spent most of the season at the Triple-A level with Boston's affiliate in Worcester, slashing .167/.281/.299 with three home runs and seven steals over 167 plate appearances.
Sabol cleared waivers Thursday and was sent outright to Triple-A Worcester, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports. Sabol was DFA'd by Boston on Sunday to make room on the 40-man roster for Nate Eaton. After passing through waivers unclaimed, Sabol will officially remain within the organization and provide depth behind the plate for Triple-A Worcester, where he owns a .645 OPS through 102 plate appearances.
