Jacob McCarthy: Breaking News

McCarthy went 2-for-4 with a grand slam and an RBI double in Thursday's 6-2 win over the Mets. McCarthy drove in five of Colorado's six runs Thursday. The outfielder tied the game at 2-2 with a two-out double in the sixth inning before putting the Rockies ahead in the eighth with a grand slam off Craig Kimbrel. After going 26 games without a homer to start the year, McCarthy's now gone deep in consecutive contests. He's slashing a solid .275/.346/.507 with 14 RBI, eight runs scored and six stolen bases across 81 plate appearances while seeing regular at-bats against right-handed pitching.

McCarthy went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's 10-5 loss to the Mets. This was McCarthy's first homer of the season. The veteran outfielder has gone 10-for-27 (.370) over his last 10 games. Overall, he's batting .262 with a .784 OPS, nine RBI, seven runs scored, six stolen bases, five doubles and two triples across 77 plate appearances this season. McCarthy is seeing a strong-side platoon role in center field.

McCarthy is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Mets. With southpaw David Peterson serving as the Mets' bulk reliever Monday, the left-handed-hitting McCarthy will head to the bench for the second time in three games. He'll cede center field to Brenton Doyle, who will bat ninth.
