Jacob McCarthy: Breaking News

McCarthy went 0-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base Wednesday against the Astros. McCarthy began the season as Colorado's primary left fielder against right-handed pitching. However, he's only been in the lineup in four of Colorado's last eight games and has hit only .171 with three RBI and one run scored across 43 plate appearances. However, McCarthy has been aggressive on the basepaths when he's reached base, logging five stolen bases on six attempts.

McCarthy is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Astros. The Rockies have faced right-handed starters in every game so far this season, but that hasn't been enough for the left-handed-hitting McCarthy to hold down a full-time role. After struggling to a .120/.185/.200 batting line through his first 28 plate appearances with the Rockies, McCarthy will stay on the bench for a second straight game. The slumping Jordan Beck (.268 OPS in 27 plate appearances) will also hit the bench, with both he and McCarthy having started to cede more opportunities to Troy Johnston and Edouard Julien.

McCarthy is not in the lineup for Tuesday's contest versus the Astros. McCarthy batted leadoff in each of the Rockies' first five games this season, but he's seen his role reduced since then. The outfielder has started only three of the past six tilts and has been down in the No. 8 spot in the batting order for all of those starts. Jordan Beck will cover left field for the Rockies on Tuesday.
