Jones, Sonnen meet in Newark
A light heavyweight title fight between Jon Jones and Chael Sonnen takes place on April 27 in Newark, New Jersey.
The event has yet to be given an actual title, but it’s expected to be a pay-per-view event.
UFC officials announced the news Monday evening.
Jones last fought at UFC 152 against Vitor Belfort, earning a submission victory over the challenger to defend his title.
Meanwhile, Sonnen is coming off a loss to Anderson Silva at UFC 148, which led to his decision to jump to the light heavyweight division.
He nearly secured a shot at the title when he agreed to fight Jones on short notice at UFC 151, but Jones declined and the event was called off.
The promotion still rewarded Sonnen by choosing Jones and him as the coaches of the next season of “The Ultimate Fighter.”
