UFC Fighter Chael Sonnen Wins Oregon Republican Primary
Top UFC middleweight contender Chael Sonnen claimed a landslide victory in Tuesday’s Oregon Republican Party primary. Sonnen, who was running unopposed, earned 99.13 percent of the vote in Oregon’s 37th district.
2,167 ballots were cast for Sonnen, while just 19 featured a write-in candidate.
Sonnen, who faces Anderson Silva for the UFC middleweight championship in the main event of UFC 117 on Aug. 7, will now face Democratic nominee Will Rasmussen on the Nov. 2 general election. Sonnen and Rasmussen are running to occupy the position vacated by Scott Bruun in Oregon’s House of Representatives.
