Packers Ride Aaron Rodgers’ Hot Hand to Convincing Win Over Chiefs

Aaron Rodgers threw for five touchdowns, three of them to Randall Cobb, as the Packers improved to 3-0 with a win over the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday night.

Green Bay was in control from the get-go, jumping out to a 31-7 lead by the third quarter before Kansas City seemed to gain a sense of urgency. For the final quarter and a half the Chiefs outscored the Packers 21-7, but by then it was too little, too late.

Kansas City quarterback Alex Smith and the Kansas City offense tallied 326 total yards of offense, compared to Green Bay’s 448. It was Rodgers’ efficiency on offense that carved up the Chiefs’ defense and helped the Packers control the ball for nearly 34 minutes of game time.

The first-place Packers will next take on the 49ers in Week 4. The Chiefs, who dropped to a 1-2 and a tie for third place in the AFC South, will take on the Bengals next week.

The Chiefs made it interesting late in the fourth. Running back Jamaal Charles’ third touchdown of the evening made it a 38-28 game after a failed two-point conversion by Kansas City.

The Chiefs are trying to stay alive, as Jamaal Charles’ second rushing touchdown of the game brought them to within 38-22 with under 10 minutes to play.

Despite scoring twice on the ground, Charles has just 10 carries for 42 rushing yards.

Alex Smith threw to Travis Kelce after the touchdown to convert on a 2-point attempt.


Aaron Rodgers, Randall Cobb Connect Once Again To Open Fourth

Aaron Rodgers and Randall Cobb have connected for three touchdowns on Monday night, and the Packers lead 38-14 in the fourth quarter at Lambeau Field.

Rodgers had a jaw-dropping five touchdown passes, having completed 220-of-32 throws for 315 yards in what has become a Packers rout at home against the overmatched Chiefs.


Chiefs Strike in Final Minute of the Third

Alex Smith threw for a short 5-yard pass to Jeremy Maclin to draw the Chiefs to within 31-14 at Lambeau Field.

Smith had 135 yards and a touchdown through three quarters as the Chiefs hoped for a last gasp comeback on the road.


Aaron Rodgers, Packers Capitalize on Alex Smith’s Interception

Aaron Rodgers threw for his fourth touchdown of the game, and his second to wideout Randall Cobb, as the Packers stretched their advantage to 31-7 midway through the third quarter.

The Packers scored the touchdown on a one-play, four-yard drive following Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith’s interception toss to cornerback Sam Shields of the Packers.

Aaron Rodgers and the Packers offense have essentially moved the ball at will against the tough Kansas City defense, racking up 304 first half yards en route to a 24-7 lead at the half.

The Chiefs have struggled in all facets of the game. Starting quarterback Alex Smith has been befuddled by the Packers defense, completed just 2-of-7 pass attempts for 37 yards. Running back Jamaal Charles has the Chiefs’ only touchdown, but has run for just 36 yards on 8 carries.

Rodgers has been efficient, accumulating 208 yards and three touchdowns, completing 16 of his 22 pass attempts.


Aaron Rodgers Strikes Again for Packers Just Before Halftime

Aaron Rodgers threw for his third touchdown of the first half as the Packers upped their lead on the Kansas City Chiefs, 24-10, with under a minute to go before the break. Rodgers threw a strike to veteran wideout James Jones for the 27-yard scoring play.

Rodgers is 16-22 for 208 yards and three touchdowns thus far as the Pack leads, 24-7.

Mason Crosby connected on a 44-yard field goal on the next play following a Tamba Hali sack of Aaron Rodgers.

The Packers lead with more than 6 minutes to go in the first half, 17-7.


Jamaal Charles Scores to Get Chiefs on the Board

Kansas City running back Jamaal Charles scored on a 9-yard scramble to cut the Packers’ lead to 14-7 with 12 minutes to go in the first half.

The big play of the drive came on a 38-yard pass from Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith to Travis Kelce. Smith had 1-yard passing on the night prior to the play.


Packers Increase Lead on Aaron Rodgers To Randall Cobb Connection

Aaron Rodgers threw a quick, three-yard pass to Randall Cobb for a touchdown to give Green Bay a 14-0 lead with just over 2 minutes left in the first quarter.

Rodgers now has 74 yards passing and two touchdowns already on the night.


Packers Strike First

Aaron Rodgers connected with Ty Montgomery on an 8-yard touchdown strike to give the Packers a 7-0 lead with under 10 minutes to go in the opening quarter.

It was the 19th straight game Green Bay has scored in the first quarter, extending their NFL record.


Game Preview

The Packers, behind the reliably steady hands of quarterback Aaron Rodgers, look to remain undefeated when the Kansas City Chiefs come to town on Monday night in a nationally televised inter-conference game.

Rodgers has roared out of the gate to lead the Packers (2-0) to their familiar spot atop their division in 2015. The Packers signal caller has thrown for 438 yards and five touchdowns, accumulating a 128.4 quarterback rating in the process. In his five home games on Monday Night Football, Rodgers has completed 92 of 130 passes for 1,045 yards, 11 touchdowns and two interceptions for a passer rating of 116.3.

The Chiefs (1-1) head into Lambeau having beaten the Texans Week 1 in Houston, followed by a loss to the Broncos at home last week. Kansas City will look to use their stud running back Jamaal Charles and the league’s 11th-ranked rushing offense to take it to a Packers defense that is 31st in the league in rushing yards allowed per game.
