Game Preview:

Playing out on the west coast, Derek Carr and Marcus Mariota didn’t always get the national spotlight. But the two faced off just once in college, in September of 2012. Mariota’s Oregon Ducks defeated Carr and Fresno State 42-25, aided by three Kenjon Barner touchdown runs.

Neither quarterback lit up the scoreboard in that game, but they played smart football. And although they trailed 35-6 at halftime, Carr stayed in the game and fought with his Bulldog teammates.

Both quarterbacks are attempting to transition the leadership they showed in that game into their current profession. Mariota is steadfast in his commitment to the pocket, but made his first major NFL scramble last week against the Jaguars. Derek Carr and Oakland started the season hot, but now are once again below .500 and on track to miss the playoffs for the 13th consecutive season.
