NBA star Steph Curry has made no secret about his support of the Carolina Panthers. How does someone who lives on the West Coast become a Carolina Panthers fan?

Steph grew up in Charlotte where his father, Dell Curry, played basketball with the Charlotte Hornets. The Panthers announced that Curry would be the guest to bang the “Keep Pounding” drum prior to Super Bowl 50. Curry had previously announced he would be attending the big game.

It is a ritual the Panthers do prior to every home game. According to ESPN, Carolina does it as a way to honor former coach and linebacker Sam Mills. Mills died of cancer in 2005 and gave a speech prior to a playoff game advising the team to “keep pounding”.

Curry often takes to social media to post his support of the Panthers. Curry posted this photo on his Instagram expressing his gratitude to the Panthers organization:

Man. Can't thank the @Panthers enough! #keeppounding
