India celebrates their historic T20 World Cup victory

The 2026 ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Champion is Team India.

They went the distance against New Zealand, putting up an incredible 255-run knock to lead off their innings. New Zealand battled valiantly; however, it was too little, too late against the reigning World Cup Champions.

They defeated New Zealand by 255/5 to 159/10. They won by 96 runs, the biggest margin of victory for a world cup ever.

With their win over New Zealand, here is every record that Team India (or one of its players) broke in the World Cup Final match.

India Defeats England to Win T20 World Cup Championship

Before 2026, the most that any team had won the T20 World Cup was twice. India, England, and the West Indies are the three teams that have won twice in the nine World Cups prior to this one.

England’s World Cup victories came in 2010 and 2022, while the West Indies took home the title in 2012 and 2016. However, India won the first-ever World Cup in 2007 and the most recent in 2024.

With this World Cup Victory they become the first team to ever win three titles.

Adding to this record is something else equally impressive. India has become the first team to ever win two consecutive World Cups. Additionally, they have become the first team to win the World Cup as the host country.

Individual Records Broken During India’s 2026 T20 Cricket World Cup Victory

Sanju Samson just keeps on breaking records for India during this T20 World Cup.

While no batter has recorded a century during a World Cup Final, Samson now holds the record for the highest score by a batter in the Final match.

Samson put together an 89-run knock to take first place in that category. Before Samson, the record for the most runs scored by an individual was 85. Kane Williamson and Marlon Samuels. Samuels put together his 85-run knock in 2016 for the West Indies. On the other hand, Williamson hit 85 for New Zealand in 2021.

Most 4s & Most 6s In a World Cup Final

To add on to that record, Samson hit the most 6s ever in a World Cup Final match.

Samson hit eight maximums in his innings for India and became the record holder for the most 6s in a T20 Cricket World Cup Final. This was also an area in which Ishan Kishan shone against New Zealand.

Kishan hit four 6s during his time batting, the ninth-most ever in a World Cup Final.
