The 2026 T20 IPL cricket season is launching in a few short days. It’s an exciting sport, sure to be filled with twists and turns. With that in mind, here are the latest news and rumors on James Neesham, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ben Duckett, and Spencer Johnson.
James Neesham’s IPL Career Details
James Neesham was recently spotted participating in the five-match T20I series between New Zealand and South Africa. In that series, he took over the captaincy from Mitchell Santner ahead of the fourth match.
He played in the IPL for the 2014, 2020, and 2021 seasons. Unfortunately, Neesham played only 12 matches across those three seasons, scoring a modest 61 runs.
Despite the limited playing time, he collected five wickets in three matches in the 2021 season.
Neesham is not signed to an IPL team at this time. However, because he was not on the shortlist for the 2026 auction, he is unlikely to be signed as an injury replacement player.
Jake Fraser-McGurk, a Ben Duckett Replacement?
Very recently, Jake Fraser-McGurk pulled out of the PSL. At the time, many speculated that he would find his way to an IPL club.
As of right now, that has not happened. However, recent developments in the IPL have opened up a spot that Fraser-McGurk could reasonably occupy.
Ben Duckett of the Delhi Capitals pulled out of the 2026 IPL season to focus on representing his country.
Interestingly enough, Fraser-McGurk played for the Delhi Capitals in 2024 and 2025. While his 2024 season was much more successful than his recent outing, acquiring an injury replacement would be in the Capitals’ best interest. He hit a high score of 84 in the 2024 IPL season.
Duckett has not played an IPL game, and after this, he probably won’t for a few years. Considering that Harry Brooks received a two-year ban following his pulling out of the IPL in 2025 at the last minute, it’s reasonable to suggest that Duckett could face a similar punishment.
New Captain For the Rajasthan Royals?
In a stunning move, the Rajasthan Royals were sold to a consortium on March 24th, 2026. Tech entrepreneur Kal Somani was part of that consortium that made the $1.6 billion purchase.
This is unconfirmed right now, but there is a report that Somani wants a different captain for his new squad. Riyan Parag is the current captain; however, the report states that Somani would like Yashasvi Jaiswal to be the team’s captain instead.
In 2025, Jaiswal recorded 559 runs in 14 matches. He hit 60 fours and 28 sixes, with a high score of 75.
How Spencer Johnson Was Convinced to Join CSK
Nathan Ellis will not play at all during the 2026 season. For that reason, Chennai Super Kings brought in Spencer Johnson to replace him for INR 1.5 Crore.
Now, there is someone claiming to have information on why Johnson was convinced to join CSK.
There are several reasons this rumor says Johnson joined. Apparently, Nathan Ellis told Johnson that CSK “treats everyone like family.” Another reason is that if Johnson performs well in the 2026 season, he can be sold for a higher price in later auctions.
Finally, Johnson was assured that he would be in the team’s playing 11.
Johnson is expected to miss the first few weeks of the season and join CSK between April 21st and 23rd.
