How many IPL records will Vaibhav Suryavanshi break in 2026?

The Indian Premier League (IPL) might not begin for just over 10 days, but that won’t stop cricket fans from getting excited about the upcoming 2026 season.

NFL, NHL, NBA, and MLB fans have free agency and trade deadlines to help get their various fan bases excited. For the IPL? Just the name of Vaibhav Suryavanshi should be enough to generate excitement among this sport‘s fans.

The 14-year-old cricket phenom has recently made headlines for his comments regarding winning an IPL Trophy and breaking the record for the highest score in a single match. Can a 14-year-old break a long-standing record?

Yes, Heavy Sports predicts that Suryavanshi will break the 175-run record. Heavy also predicts that Suryavanshi won’t stop there.

Can Vaibhav Suryavanshi Break Chris Gayle’s Single-Match IPL Record?

While IPL records aren’t broken every day, there is a really good chance that if anyone breaks a record in 2026, it’s Suryavanshi.

The 14-year-old cricket sensation has become synonymous with record-breaking knocks. For instance, Suryavanshi put together a 175-run performance in the final match of the ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup.

Suryavanshi smacked 15 fours and 15 sixes as part of his ODI performance.

While the youngster was able to achieve this feat after batting for 80 deliveries, age is on his side, and he is only going to improve as time soldiers on. Luckily for Suryavanshi, Chris Gayle’s 175-run record-setting knock gives insight into how possible it is for the young phenom to achieve the same feat.

Chris Gayle’s 175-Run High Score

Gayle scored his record-setting 175-run high score on April 23rd, 2013. In that match, Gayle came out in the opening partnership and never got out in his innings. He recorded 13 fours, 17 sixes, and 175 total runs off 66 deliveries.

If Suryavanshi can hit 175 runs off 80 balls, he’s got a good chance to hit that off 66 deliveries.

What Other IPL Records Can Vaibhav Suryavanshi Realistically Break?

Thanks to ESPNcricinfo, we know of some other records that have a good chance of falling once the season gets underway.

Gayle holds the record for the most sixes in a single IPL season. He hit 59 sixes in 15 matches during the 2012 season. During the same season, he hit 46 fours.

Shockingly, Suryavanshi hit 24 sixes in just seven matches during the 2025 IPL season. If he only maintains his hitting pace from last year, he should record 50 sixes. However, given that it will be his first full IPL season, it’s reasonable to assume that he could very well break this record. Or at least get dangerously close to it.

Fastest Century on the Horizon

As if that weren’t impressive enough, Suryavanshi already has one of the fastest centuries in IPL history.

On April 28th, 2025, the youngster knocked a century off 35 deliveries. That gives Suryavanshi the second-fastest century, behind Gayle’s 30-ball ton back in April of 2013.

Yet again, this record is another case of timing. The question that should be asked isn’t “if” Suryavanshi will break this record, but when.

For now, IPL fans can speculate and run fantasies in their minds about what this young phenom will do this season. With his birthday being the day before the start date of the 2026 season, he is sure to be fired up to make his mark on the league.
