The Pacific Classic Stakes 2026 results are in, and Knightsbridge won with a dominant performance.
Original Sin finished second, followed by Full Serrano in third. But Knightsbridge’s dominant performance was the story of the day, earning a trip to the Breeders’ Cup Classic with a massive win.
The full results of the Pacific Classic Stakes 2026 can be found here, with final results posted once they are made official.
The Pacific Classic Stakes was the latest race in the Breeders’ Cup Challenge Series, with the winner of Saturday’s $1 million race sending the winner to the $7 million Breeders’ Cup Classic on Oct. 31.
Big Field for Pacific Classic Stakes 2026
As Byron King of Bloodhorse noted, there have only been two horses to vault from the Pacific Classic Stakes to a win in the Breeders’ Cup Classic.
“Since the Pacific Classic’s inauguration in 1991, two horses have completed the Pacific Classic-Breeders’ Cup Classic double in the same year: Accelerate in 2018 and Flightline in 2022,” King wrote. “The latter, now off to a promising stud career, was at his most brilliant in the two races, taking the Pacific Classic by 19 1/4 lengths and the Breeders’ Cup Classic by an 8 1/4-length margin during a slam-dunk Horse of the Year campaign.”
King noted that there was no clear Accelerate or Flightline in this year’s Pacific Classic Stakes field, but drew a large field with plenty of possibilities for surprises.
“There is no such standout in Saturday’s field, but the 1 1/4-mile dirt contest drew 11 horses,” King wrote. “The connections of many appear eager to try the Pacific Classic following the recent retirements of Nysos and Journalism, two of California’s top horses.”
Knightsbridge Seen as Pacific Classic Stakes Favorite
Knightsbridge, from trainer Bill Mott, came into the race on Saturday as the favorite with morning odds of 5-to-2.
Ed DeRosa of Horse Racing Nation suggested that Knightsbridge didn’t have much serious competition coming into the race.
“Throw in that Knightsbridge has fantastic tactical speed in a race that looks void of serious pace, and it’s easy to make a case for Knightsbridge being the most likely winner, with the biggest question being will we get a fair price,” DeRosa wrote. “He is 5-2 on the morning line, but odds-on would not surprise me. I can’t bet him that short, but he is a stone-cold single for me on top of the gimmicks.”
DeRosa added that Knightsbridge had a good chance to give Bill Mott a long-awaited second win for the Pacific Classic Stakes.
“Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott is 1-for-3 in the Pacific Classic, with the lone win coming in 2008 on the synthetic Polytrack surface with Go Between,” DeRosa wrote. “His first attempt at the race came in 1996 when Cigar broke his 16-race winning streak at 1-10.”
