The Cleveland Guardians are calling up their top prospect, Travis Bazzana. MLB Insider Jeff Passan reports.
Bazzana, 23, was the number one selection in the 2024 MLB draft. He headlines a premier offensive core taking shape in Cleveland. Other players included in Cleveland’s youth movement include breakout infielder Angel Martinez, first baseman Kyle Manzardo, and their backstop, Bo Naylor.
In his days at Oregon State, Bazzana was a star. He set a school record at the time with 28 home runs in a season, eventually leading to his bountiful $8.95 million signing bonus.
Travis Bazzana Will Add Some Juice to the Guardians Lineup
In 24 games at Triple-A this season, Bazzana slashed .287/.422/.511. He’d headline Cleveland’s offensive unit thus far if those numbers were in The Show.
From a prospect standpoint, not many hitters have been as hyped in recent years as Bazzana. His rare combination of raw power and elite bat-to-ball skills has enamoured scouts since his days in Australia.
The most attractive part of Bazzana’s game is his discipline. MLB Pipeline speaks highly of this specific tool. “He’s not afraid to work deep counts because his quick, compact left-handed swing allows him to make consistent contact,” Pipeline writes. Pairing that kind of consistency with the kind of power that sets school records is a recipe to put the league on notice.
Bazzana was a consensus top-100 prospect in the sport. His national prospect pedigree shouldn’t be ignored as he gears up to showcase his talents against opposing big league arms.

The Guardians are in Heated Competition for the AL Central
After being crowned kings of their division last season, the rival Detroit Tigers went out and made some tweaks. The new-and-improved roster in Detroit, featuring one of baseball’s best pitching staffs, is giving Cleveland a run for its money.
With their always sure-handed mound presence, headlined by the emergence of Parker Messick, Cleveland is looking to add some pop up the middle.
Bazzana will slot in as the everyday second baseman for Cleveland. This promotion marks yet another top-prospect middle infielder to join the stacked 2026 rookie class. Other phenoms include Cardinals’ JJ Wetherholt, Pirates’ Konnor Griffin, and the division rival Tigers’ Kevin McGonigle.
The Guardians have always made the most out of stalling players who’ve gone to The Land and reinvented themselves. Now it’s time to see what they can do with a premier talent from the jump.
