McGonigle is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Red Sox. The Tigers typically include the left-handed-hitting McGonigle in the lineup against southpaws, but he'll be given a day off for just the third time all season while lefty Payton Tolle toes the rubber for Boston. With McGonigle on the bench, the Tigers will go with Zack Short and Colt Keith as their starters on the left side of the infield.

Kevin McGonigle: Breaking News
Swipes base in win
McGonigle went 1-for-5 with a stolen base, an RBI and a run scored in Saturday's 5-1 win over the Rangers. McGonigle continued his strong rookie season, as he's now slashing .310/.404/.476 with two home runs, 14 RBI and 23 runs scored across 33 games. The 21-year-old has also started to run a bit more frequently. McGonigle had only one stolen base across his first 25 games of the year, but he's swiped two bases in his last eight contests, and he's yet to be caught on a stolen base attempt.
Slugs second homer
McGonigle went 3-for-5 with a solo home run and a double in a loss to the Reds on Saturday. McGonigle gave Detroit an early lead when he knocked Brady Singer's second pitch of the game over the center-field fence for a leadoff homer. The Tigers were able to score only one more run the rest of the way, but that was no fault of McGonigle, who finished with his eighth multi-hit game of the campaign. The talented rookie has had no trouble adjusting to MLB pitching, as he's slashing .333/.424/.539 with two homers, 11 doubles, 12 RBI, 21 runs and two stolen bases over his first 27 contests.
