The Dallas Cowboys finally saw star wide receiver George Pickens sign his franchise tag on Wednesday.

After weeks of wondering whether or not Pickens would sign the tag, a decision has finally been made. Leading up to the 2026 NFL Draft, there were trade rumors swirling around the wideout. Fans are now hopeful that Pickens will indeed suit up for the Cowboys this season.

While Pickens may have signed the franchise tag, Dallas fans have been given a clear warning about the situation.

Danny Parkins issued that warning during a segment of “First Things First” on Wednesday. He doesn’t think the situation has come to an end.

“My gut tells me, because it’s Dallas, as the world turns in Jerry Jones land, this is not the last we’ve heard of this story,” Parkins said. “But for now, it’s actually a bit of normalcy.”

George Pickens’ Future With Cowboys Isn’t Set in Stone

Even though Pickens has signed the franchise tag, he clearly still wants a long-term extension. If the Cowboys remain uninterested in working out a long-term deal with him, the two sides could still part ways.

There is still a chance he could be traded this offseason as well.

At the very least, the 2026 season is looking likely to be the last year the two sides remain together. Pickens has become one of the top performing wide receivers in the NFL. He is going to have a large market of interested teams next offseason.

Jerry Jones has some tough decisions to make. Would he prefer to have one more year of Pickens to lose him for nothing next offseason? Or, would he like to trade him now to get some valuable draft capital for the 2027 NFL Draft?

Only time will tell, but the situation is far from decided.

Pickens Showed True Superstar Potential Last Season

After the 2025 NFL Draft, Dallas was able to acquire Pickens from the Pittsburgh Steelers. Jones only had to give up a third-round pick and a fifth-round pick to get him.

During the 2025 season, Pickens exploded with career-high numbers. He played in 17 games and caught 93 passes for 1,429 yards and nine touchdowns.

Pickens is just 25 years old. He’s starting to show the superstar potential that he came into the NFL with. Should he continue developing and improving, he has a chance to become one of the league’s premier wide receivers.

Expect to continue hearing rumors and speculation about the future surrounding Pickens. For now, he remains with the Cowboys, but it would not be surprising to see that change in the near future.
