It’s the Mother’s Day weekend and a very pleasant time at the Mayfield household. Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield and his wife, Emily, expanded their family last month.
The couple welcomed their second child, son Maverick Thorne, on April 16. Mayfield dropped a heartwarming message teasing the news on Emily’s birthday earlier last month. “Happy Birthday to this soon-to-be momma of 2! Watching you take care of our family is the biggest blessing. Love you, Em,” he wrote.
Emily shared a family photo of everyone on Instagram just days after coming back from the hospital, giving fans a much-anticipated look at their baby boy.
Last year, on Mother’s Day, she confessed how blessed she felt raising her first child, daughter Kova.
“My most prized role in the universe- ‘Mom’. Thank you, Jesus, for trusting me to raise this baby girl,” Emily wrote, uploading a family photo. “Thank you, Fergus, for being my most perfect first baby & allowing me to dip my toes into motherhood. “Thank you, Koko, for making me a mama & taking it so easy on me. And thank you, Baker, for being my partner in this wild ride. There’s no one better. I’m the luckiest girl alive & I am beyond thankful.”

Mayfield and Emily welcomed Kova in April 2024, five years after getting married in 2019. Her arrival turned their world “upside down”.
“When you’re trying to have kids or your significant other is pregnant, everybody’s like, ‘just wait until you see that child for the first time. You don’t know that love.’ And you hear it so many times,” the 31-year-old signal caller expressed to “Sports Spectrum”. “You’re like, ‘yeah, I get it.’ But first time I saw her, that’s like, ‘okay, now I understand it and what pure love is’ and just turning our world upside down.”
The quarterback confessed that he lacked the softness to raise a girl. Being from a family of two boys, both his mom and dad were tough. But his wife contradicted his words completely.
“Baker is…not for everyone. He’s a little polarizing on the field…but he is such a softie,” Emily said on ESPN’s “Monday Night Countdown”. “So I knew he’d be a good dad.”

The couple met in 2017 after a mutual friend, Patrick, introduced them. At first, Emily didn’t want Mayfield to have her number. So, man had to rely on social media.
He followed her on Instagram, but she didn’t follow him back, which led the Buccaneers star to unfollow her. Mayfield tried his luck again by following her, but the same happened. He then tried sliding into her DMs, but that too got him nowhere. Eventually, Emily caved in and asked that mutual friend to give him her number.
Six months after they went on their first date, the couple got engaged. But their life after marriage wasn’t at all smooth. In fact, in 2022, there was a time when Emily thought that the marriage would fail.
When Mayfield underwent the shoulder surgery and struggled to find a home, their marriage faced a tough test.
“He was losing himself and I was watching it, front and center,” Emily said. “Our marriage was failing. I mean, there were so many things failing in his life, really. And to watch it was really hard.”
It is in such times that a person truly turns to faith and Mayfield did the same. From that point on, everything changed. Now, with a beautiful family and a place to call home in Tampa Bay, he has nothing to worry about.
