Justin Cornwell as Kyle Craig
In 2001, Training Day helped bring Denzel Washington his second Oscar and first for Best Actor. Over 15 years later, CBS and producers Jerry Bruckheimer and Antoine Fuqua have turned the movie into a TV crime drama. The first episode of the series, "Apocalypse Now," airs on Thursday, February 2 at 10 p.m. ET on CBS. In this version, the races of the veteran renegade detective and the idealistic young rookie are swapped. Bill Paxton plays Detective Frank Rouke, who is similar to Washington's evil Detective Alonzo Harris. Justin Cornwell plays a young detective similar to Ethan Hawke's Jake Hoyt. There were reportedly attempts to get Hawke to play Hoyt in the series, but that never materialized.
Cornwell is a relative newcomer to Hollywood. After starring in a few shorts in 2013 and 2014, he appeared in an episode of Chicago P.D. in 2014 and an episode of Empire in 2015. Also in 2015, he had an un-credited part in Spike Lee's Chi-Raq. Training Day is his first starring role.
