Sanders (Achilles) underwent surgery and head coach Sean Payton expects him back in 2024, Chris Tomasson of The Denver Gazette reports. Sanders suffered a torn Achilles at Monday's OTA session with the Broncos, but Payton said Thursday that the linebacker sustained the injury on "an early enough timeline that we'll bring him back," according to Parker Gabriel of The Denver Post. Sanders will likely need approximately six months, if not longer, to recover, putting his status for the 2024 campaign up in the air. Though his head coach's words do instill some confidence that he'll make it back for a portion of his sophomore campaign in the NFL.

Latest Broncos News
Drew Sanders : Hopeful for return in 2024
Sanders (Achilles) underwent surgery and head coach Sean Payton expects him back in 2024, Chris Tomasson of The Denver Gazette reports.
Greg Dulcich : Close to return
Dulcich (hamstring/foot) worked on a side field during Thursday's OTA session, Ryan McFadden of The Denver Post reports. On the plus side, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com relays via coach Sean Payton that Dulcich is "close" to practicing and should be doing so "sooner than later." Dulcich, who was limited to just two regular-season appearances in 2023, is thus expected to be ready before training camp, per Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site. At that stage, the 2022 third-rounder will have an opportunity to claim a key role in Denver's passing offense, while operating in a TE corps that also includes Adam Trautmanand Lucas Krull.
Tim Patrick : On field for OTAs
Patrick (Achilles) is participating in Thursday's OTAs session, Nick Kosmider of The Athletic reports. Patrick continues to work his way back from the left Achilles tear that cost him the entire 2023 season. As an ACL tear also wiped out his 2022 campaign, the 30-year-old wideout now hasn't suited up for an NFL game since 2021, and he likely would've been cut this offseason had he not agreed to a pay cut. Health permitting, there's opportunity for Patrick to carve out a role in Denver's wide receiver corps, which gets thin behind Courtland Sutton. The other top candidates to start in three-wide sets are Josh Reynolds, Marvin Mims and Troy Franklin.
Drew Sanders : Suffers serious injury
Sanders suffered a torn Achilles Monday, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports. The second-year linebacker played in all 17 games as a rookie but only started four, making 24 tackles. Sanders was likely to play a role in Denver's inside linebacker rotation with projected starters Alex Singleton and Cody Barton. Now, the 2023 third-round pick will miss most or all of the 2024 campaign.
Jonah Elliss : On pace with recovery
Elliss (shoulder) should be fully healed by training camp, Mike Klis of 9News reports. Elliss underwent surgery to repair a torn shoulder labrum six months ago, but he still isn't quite 100 percent. However, the Broncos' 2024 third-round selection was able to take part in walkthroughs and individual portions of the team's recent rookie minicamp. The son of former NFL player, Luther Elliss, Jonah projects to be a pass-rush specialist after recording 12 sacks in just 10 games at Utah last season.
Phillip Dorsett : Back with Denver
Dorsett signed with the Broncos on Monday after being released Friday, Aric DiLalla of the team's official site reports. The wide receiver spent 2023 with Denver's practice squad, playing in two games and not catching any of his three targets. The 2015 first-round pick has just 21 receptions over the past four seasons with four different teams. Now he'll get a chance to stick with Denver on a depth chart that includes 12 wide receivers.
Nate Adkins : Chance for roster spot improves
Adkins will have the chance to win a roster spot in Denver as a depth tight end, Nick Kosmider of The Athletic reports. Adkins appeared in 10 games for the Broncos in 2023, though he exited Week 18 early with a hamstring injury. Healthy again, he'll look to maintain a spot on the roster as primarily a special-teams contributor.
Zach Wilson : Won’t have option picked up
The Broncos don't plan to pick up the fifth-year option in Wilson's contract, Jeff Legwold of ESPN reports. Wilson, who the Jets took with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, joined the Broncos in a trade with New York leading up to this year's draft. With his new team not in line to pick up his fifth-year option -- which would have been for a guaranteed $22.4 million -- the 24 year-old is in a position to become a free agent next March. For now, Wilson is slated to compete with first-round rookie Bo Nix and Jarrett Stidham -- who started Denver's final two games of the 2023 regular season -- for the Week 1 starting assignment. While Nix is presumably viewed as the franchise's long-term answer at QB, in the short term, slotting at the position is up for grabs in advance of training camp.
