Re-ups with Denver

The Broncos re-signed Burton on Wednesday, Aric DiLalla of the team's official site reports. Burton suited up for all 17 regular-season games with Denver in 2024, mostly working in a special-teams role while contributing occasionally as a blocker on offense. He totaled seven carries for eight yards and a touchdown on the year, while also securing all 10 of his targets for 65 yards and an additional score. He'll spend the offseason competing to again secure the team's top fullback spot.
Career-high 10 catches in 2024

Burton played in all 17 regular-season games in 2024 and finished with seven carries for eight yards and a touchdown while catching 10 passes on as many targets for 65 yards and a score. Burton didn't make the Broncos' 53-man roster at the end of training camp, but he was eventually signed to the active roster in mid-September after initially staying on the practice squad. He mostly served in a special teams role and didn't play more than 13 offensive snaps in all but one regular-season game (Week 18 against the Chiefs; 24 snaps on offense). On offense he was mostly used as an extra blocker in the running game, though he did manage to register a career-high 10 catches, three of which came in Week 16 against the Chargers when he also caught a one-yard touchdown pass from Bo Nix. Burton will explore his options during the offseason as an unrestricted free agent.
Finds end zone in loss

Burton caught all three of his targets for 19 yards and a touchdown in Thursday's 34-27 loss to the Chargers. Burton's touchdown was his first score through the air this season and second trip to the end zone overall in 2024. The veteran fullback played just 10 of the Broncos' 64 offensive snaps Thursday, playing in his usual part-time role in Denver's offense. Despite the score in Week 16, Burton remains far off the fantasy radar due to his extremely limited usage. Next up for the Broncos is a matchup against the Bengals in Week 17.
Signs to active roster

The Broncos signed Burton to their active roster Wednesday, Aric DiLalla of the team's official site reports. Burton has appeared in all 10 of the Broncos games this season, recording two carries for minus-1 yards and five receptions for 40 yards across 275 total snaps (177 on offense and 98 on special teams). Expect the Rutgers product to serve as Denver's top fullback again in Week 11's matchup against the Falcons, contributing both on offense and special teams.
Sticking around in Denver

The Broncos signed Burton to the practice squad Saturday, and he has been elevated to the active roster ahead of Sunday's game against the Ravens, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports. Burton was on the Broncos' active roster over the first eight games of the regular season, logging five catches (on eight targets) for 40 yards over that span. He was released by Denver on Friday, but he's opted to stick around on the practice squad and he'll be available for Sunday's contest.
Released by Denver

Burton was released by the Broncos on Friday. Burton had appeared in all eight of the Broncos' games in 2024, catching all five of his targets for 40 yards. The fullback has also played 68 percent of the team's special-teams snaps this season. It wouldn't be a surprise to see Burton return to Denver in the near future.
Signs to active roster

The Broncos signed Burton to their active roster Wednesday, Ryan McFadden of The Denver Post reports. Burton will remain with the Broncos' active roster after playing 36 total snaps (10 offensive and 26 on special teams) during the team's regular-season opener. In a corresponding move, the Broncos' placed rookie running back Audric Estime (ankle) on injured reserve.
Back with practice squad

Burton reverted to the Broncos' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's official transaction log. Burton was elevated to the active roster prior to Sunday's 26-20 loss to the Seahawks. The fullback caught his only target for three yards while playing 10 of the team's 69 offensive snaps. Additionally, he logged an assisted tackle on kick coverage while playing 26 snaps on special teams. Denver can elect to elevate Burton two more times before they'd have to officially sign him to the 53-man roster.
Back with team

Burton signed with the Broncos' practice squad Wednesday, Aric DiLalla of the team's official site reports. Burton appeared in all 17 regular-season games for Denver last season, operating as the team's fullback and a regular on special teams. However, he wasn't able to make the final cut this year, his 10th in the NFL. The Rutgers product likely has a good chance of ultimately finding his way to the 53-man roster this season.
