For a guy with a pretty horrible stage name, Memphis-based musician Jay Reatard made some honestly great, affecting songs. Starting out in the garage-punk Reatards at the age of fifteen, the man born Jimmy Lee Lindsay Jr. had a remarkable growth as an artist, exploring synth-driven punk with the Lost Sounds as well as multiple other groups. But his 2006 solo record, Blood Visions, brought him a new crop of fans as he broadened his musical spectrum even further. Reatard had releases a second well-received solo album, Watch Me Fall, in August of 2009. He was found dead in his Memphis home at 3:30 this morning. The cause is still unknown, but he had complained previously of flu-like symptoms.
