‘The Americans’: Season 2 Premiere Recap: Top 5 Highlights

The Americans is back on FX for season 2 of the drama. It is sure to have all the suspense, espionage, and romance that made the first season of the show so popular. Set in 1982, it chronicles two KGB spies Elizabeth and Philip, played by Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys, acting as Americans in Washington D.C. shortly after Ronald Reagan is elected President. Here are the highlights of the episode, “Comrades,” that aired tonight.

1. Philip Struggles to Hold the Family Together

At the start of the episode, Phil pretends to be an American agent helping Taliban militants. Philip then had to murder all of them, resulting in him fearing for the family’s safety.

2. Elizabeth is Back

After her injury, Philip drives Elizabeth home. Life is almost back to normal, and they throw a birthday party for Henry. Elizabeth’s love for Philip is apparent as she reaches out to take his hand when he tells her he is struggling with his decisions.

3. Paige is Suspicious

While her parents are out, Paige looks through her mother’s suitcase. She wakes up in the middle of night scared that her parents haven’t returned home and goes to check on them. When she opens the door, she gets a big shock as she finds them naked and in a comprising position in bed.



4. Stan’s Falling for a Russian Agent

Married FBI agent Stan is having an affair with Nina, a Russian KGB employee. She is very sensitive when the two are watching The French Lieutenant’s Woman, and accuses him of thinking of her as a prostitute.

5. A Spy Family is Murdered

The family goes to a carnival together and see their spy counterparts there with their family. Philip knows something isn’t right, and while they distract Paige and Henry with money for more rides, the couple heads to a hotel. Inside a room, they find their spy friends, Emmett and Leanne Connors, killed along with their daughter. This hits close to home for the couple, and they fear for their lives.
