Ashley Tisdale was smitten by Christopher French as soon as she met him.
“It’s all natural between us. With other relationships you’re just kind of trying too much to make it work,” she told Ryan Seacrest.
Tisdale, who has a history of dating rockers, married the Annie Automatic frontman on September 8.
Here’s what you need to know about the new husband of the High School Musical star.
1. He Married Ashley
The happy couple was married on September 8 in a secret ceremony in Santa Barbara, California.
The caption of the picture above, which the High School Musical star posted to her Instagram, was, “Best day of my life! Introducing Mr and Mrs French Sept 8, 2014.”
They first stepped out publicly in December of 2012 when the visited the Apple Store in L.A.
At the time, a source told Us Weekly, “She likes those rocker types. They have mutual friends and just met through hanging out.”
When Tisdale visited Ryan Seacrest’s show, she gushed, “I think from the moment that him and I met, I just knew it. I was like, ‘Ok this is the guy,’ and he knew the same thing. It doesn’t get any better. I just can’t explain it.”
2. He Proposed at the Empire State Building
French popped the question in the Big Apple in August of 2013. They were on the 103rd floor of the Empire State Building.
The above photo is from the couple’s lavish engagement party at Bagatelle LA in West Hollywood.
3. He Started the Band Annie Automatic
Since he was 11, French has been making music. He put together Annie Automatic in L.A. in 2009.
On their website, the band outlines its musical mission as striving for “artistic honesty, and a level of passion and love that seem to be lacking in today’s Alternative Rock.
It’s that honesty that sets their sound apart, and proves this band is just getting started.”
There first album, Don’t Look Down, was released in 2011.
He talked to Adequacy about his songwriting, saying, “I have so much Love for things that are pretty and emotionally-based. I’m always writing on acoustic, and I love doing softer songs too. Yeah, there are a few songs that are much more soft and beautiful on this record.”
4. He Dated Kaley
The rocker once dated actress Kaley Cuoco, known for her role as Penny on The Big Bang Theory .
Listen to the touching rendition of “Over the Rainbow,” above, which French made with Cuoco while she was in the hospital. They ended up using if for a PSA for The Humane Society.
He told Adequacy how the collaboration came about:
Well, Kaley and I have been together for a while, and when she broke her leg, I was there. I was fortunately able to push some work dates and stay with her in the hospital and help take care of her. It was really intense, she went through so much…I had a guitar there in the hospital room, and was getting some work done from there, when one night, when the pain meds weren’t enough and she was really hurting, she asked me to play something she could sing to – to distract her. I figured out this silly little way to play “Over The Rainbow” and got her singing, and in a few minutes she was laughing and smiling and we were trading off verses. We played through it like 15 times, into the morning, it was beautiful.
French gushed to Adequacy about Cuoco, saying, “She really is one of the strongest people I’ve ever known.”
5. He Helped Ashley Record a Meaningful Song
She wrote a song, “You’re Always Here,” about her grandfather who passed away, and French was there to help her arrange it into a recording.
Watch the video above, where we see Tisdale and French in the recording studio.
“It’s actually about my grandfather who passed away in September. It was something that just kind of came organically. I would go on walks and just write down some lyrics—and didn’t even think I was gonna make it into a song—but my fiancé [Christopher French] who produces music, actually sat down with me and we put it together,” she told E.
She continued, “…he’s really the one who’s been going through it with me and understands me and really knew exactly what I wanted to do, and I think for him it was really just trying to help me get through what I was experiencing.”
