Walker Buehler: Breaking News

Buehler did not factor into the decision Monday, allowing one run on eight hits and two walks over 4.2 innings in a 6-2 victory over the Reds. He struck out four. Buehler allowed plenty of traffic on the bases, which prevented him from working deep into the contest, though the right-hander was able to limit the damage before exiting with one out remaining in the fifth inning. It hasn't always been pretty, but the 31-year-old has quietly allowed two or fewer runs in five of his past six starts. Buehler will carry a 3-3 record with a 4.33 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 53:22 K:BB across 62.1 innings (13 starts) into his next outing, tentatively scheduled for Sunday against the Orioles.

Buehler did not factor into the decision in Wednesday's 3-2 loss to the Phillies. He allowed a run on four hits and two walks while striking out six over six innings. Buehler was solid Wednesday, as he held the Phillies scoreless before allowing a lone run in the fifth inning. The right-hander has now held opponents to two runs or fewer in four of his last five starts, posting a 3.81 ERA in that span (26.2 innings). Buehler's lowered his ERA to 4.53 on the season with a 1.28 WHIP and 49:20 K:BB across 12 starts (57.2 innings). He's tentatively scheduled to face the Reds at home his next time out.

Buehler (3-3) took the loss Wednesday against the Phillies, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out two over 5.1 innings. Buehler was excellent for most of the night, facing the minimum through five innings, but after allowing a single and a hit-by-pitch in the sixth with Kyle Schwarber due up, San Diego opted to turn to left-hander Adrian Morejon despite Buehler sitting at only 58 pitches. The move backfired as both inherited runners eventually came around to score, and the Padres' offense once again failed to provide Buehler with enough run support, saddling the right-hander with the loss. He has now limited opponents to two or fewer earned runs in six of his last nine starts and owns a 4.88 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 43:18 K:BB across 51.2 innings. Buehler is slated for a rematch against Philadelphia in his next outing.
