Alan Roden: Everything you need to know

Roden (shoulder) has resumed taking light swings and is hopeful to begin a throwing program Monday, MLB.com reports. After failing to win a spot on the Twins' Opening Day roster, Roden was optioned to Triple-A St. Paul coming out of spring training. He was making a case for a call-up after slashing .275/.425/.464 with three home runs and two steals in 19 games at St. Paul, but the left-handed hitter was shut down in late April and placed on the 7-day injured list after suffering a torn labrum in his right (throwing) shoulder. Roden is expected to require a three-week buildup with his throwing program before beginning a rehab assignment in the lower levels of the minors, so he would appear unlikely to rejoin the St. Paul lineup until around the middle of June.

Roden has a labrum tear in his right shoulder, Dan Hayes of The Athletic Roden is expected to rest and rehab the injury for the next four weeks, ultimately avoiding surgery for the time being. The outfielder has produced a .275 average with three home runs, 15 RBI, nine runs scored and two stolen bases over 69 at-bats in 19 contests with Triple-A St. Paul so far this season.

The Twins optioned Roden to Triple-A St. Paul on Sunday, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports. The 26-year-old batted .302 with a double, a homer and two steals in 15 Grapefruit League games, but he'll still open the season in the minors in favor of James Outman. It's worth noting that Outman has no remaining minor-league options, which likely factored into Roden's demotion to begin the season. He shouldn't have to wait too long to get another look for the rebuilding Twins.
