Despite being 63-68 (and being swept by the San Diego Padres over the weekend), the Minnesota Twins are still in the thick of things in the AL Wild Card picture.
The next series on the docket for the Twins is against the Athletics (on the road). Minnesota will need to avoid falling too far behind in the standings by picking up a series win against the A’s.
With that being said, in a smaller piece of news, the Twins decided to cut ties with a pitcher in their organization during the Athletics series.

Twins Release Jacob Webb From Organization

Not to be mistaked with the Jacob Webb, who has made the MLB and pitched for several different clubs in the league, the Minnesota Twins released a different Jacob Webb on Monday, August 24.
Webb had been pitching for the Twins’ AA affiliate, the Wichita Wind Surge:
“Wichita Wind Surge released RHP Jacob Webb.”
Webb, 27, had pitched within the Boston Red Sox organization for his entire professional baseball career before signing with the Minnesota Twins as a free agent in mid-June.
In 2026, Webb has posted an ERA of 6.90 over 44 innings pitched with AA Wichita and AAA Worcester.
With the Twins specifically, he was particularly ineffective, posting an ERA of 7.88 (14 earned runs) over 16 IP.

More on Jacob Webb’s Professional Career
The Boston Red Sox drafted pitcher Jacob Webb in the 14th round of the 2021 MLB draft, and he spent parts of six seasons in the Red Sox organization.
Across 296 innings pitched in the minors, Webb carries an ERA of 4.56 with 350 total strikeouts.
His AAA stats aren’t great, as Webb has posted a 7.48 ERA over 43+ innings at the highest level in the minors.
Now that he’s officially a free agent, it will be interesting to see if another MLB club picks him up to finish out the season. However, Webb may have to wait until next season for his next opportunity because the MiLB season is starting to wrap up for many clubs, which is why there has been an influx of releases across the minor leagues.
