The Athletics signed Serven to a minor-league contract Dec. 19. Serven has slashed .187/.247/.293 in 101 games over parts of three big-league seasons. The 30-year-old collected a .648 OPS over 62 contests at Triple-A Toledo in the Tigers organization in 2025. Serven will give the Athletics some experienced catching depth at Triple-A Las Vegas.

Healthy again at Triple-A
Serven (oblique) has gone 6-for-19 with a double, a stolen base, six RBI and two runs in four games since being activated from Triple-A Toledo's 7-day injured list April 15 Serven suffered a left oblique strain in early March that ended any hopes he had of making the Tigers' Opening Day roster as a backup catcher and also resulted in him beginning the season on the shelf at Triple-A. He was cleared to debut for Toledo after beginning a rehab assignment at Single-A Lakeland on April 4 and appearing in seven games.
Starting rehab assignment
Serven (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment with Single-A Lakeland on Wednesday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. Serven has been cleared for game action after suffering a left oblique strain in early March. He will eventually be assigned to Triple-A Toledo, where he'll offer catching depth.
