Gustavo Campero: Everything you need to know

The Angels selected Campero's contract from Double-A Rocket City and placed him on the 10-day injured list Saturday due to a fractured hand. Campero was hit by a pitch and suffered a fracture on his hand in Rocket City' game against Montgomery on Sunday, so he'll have to wait to make his 2026 big-league debut. Campero slashed .287/.375/.455 with six home runs and 27 RBI in 167 plate appearances at the Double-A level, and he's taking the 40-man roster spot of Omar Martinez, who was designated for assignment Saturday.

The Angels reassigned Campero to minor-league camp Saturday. Campero logged 66 plate appearances over 28 games in the majors 2025, but with the Angels outfield in good health as Opening Day approaches, he never seemed to have much of a chance at breaking camp with the big club. The 28-year-old is likely to begin the season at Triple-A Salt Lake, where he'll likely take on an everyday role.

The Angels re-signed Campero to a minor-league contract Wednesday. The Halos non-tendered Campero earlier this month but have now brought him back on a minor-league pact. Campero posted a .618 OPS over 66 plate appearances in the majors in 2025 and offers the ability to handle all three outfield spots. He'll likely begin next season at Triple-A Salt Lake.
