McNeil is not in the Athletics' starting lineup against the Yankees on Saturday. The Yankees are sending southpaw Ryan Weathers to the mound, so the left-hitting McNeil -- who has gone 1-for-19 over his last six games -- will open Saturday's game on the bench. Alika Williams will start at second base and bat ninth.

Jeffrey McNeil: Breaking News
Blasts game-tying homer
McNeil went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk in Wednesday's 6-5 extra-inning win over the Angels. McNeil helped the Athletics complete their rally with a game-tying solo shot in the ninth inning off Kirby Yates. This was just the second long ball of the year for McNeil, who has often been more contact-over-power as a hitter. He's gone 7-for-27 (.259) over his last eight contests, and on the year, he's batting .279 with a .726 OPS, 15 RBI, 15 runs scored, one stolen base and nine doubles across 46 contests. He continues to handle a starting role at second base.
Tallies three RBI in win
McNeil went 2-for-4 with a three-RBI double in Sunday's win over Cleveland. With the bases loaded in the sixth inning, McNeil smashed a bases-clearing double into right field to extend the Athletics' lead to 7-1, which would hold as the final score. The second baseman has been swinging a hot bat of late, slashing .409/.440/.545 with three doubles, six RBI and one run over his past seven games, raising the veteran's season OPS to .801. It has been a strong year in the batting average department for McNeil, who's hitting north of .300 (.314) for the first time since 2022, when he won the National League batting title and hit .326 across 148 regular-season contests with the Mets.
