Marco Raya: Everything you need to know

The Twins optioned Raya to Triple-A St. Paul on Monday. Raya was one of nine players sent out of big-league camp in the Twins' latest round of roster cuts. The 23-year-old right-hander is entering his second season as a member of Minnesota's 40-man roster but is still waiting to make his MLB debut. After logging a 6.02 ERA and 1.63 WHIP across 98.2 innings in his 30 appearances (20 starts) for St. Paul in 2025, Raya is expected to serve as a full-time reliever for the Triple-A club during the 2026 season.

Raya, who was moved to the bullpen late last season, will be used as a reliever going forward, Matthew Leach of MLB.com reports. Raya struck out three batters in one inning against the University of Minnesota in an exhibition Friday in his spring debut. Raya had a 22.6% strikeout rate last season at Triple-A, but a 12.6% walk rate helped result in a 6.02 ERA. If Raya can reduce his walks at Triple-A he could be a candidate for the major league bullpen this summer.

The Twins optioned Raya to minor-league camp Sunday, Phil Miller of The Minnesota Star Tribune reports. Raya had been slowed early in spring training after suffering a quadricep strain, but he was cleared to make his Grapefruit League debut Saturday against the Red Sox. The 22-year-old right-hander was exceptionally wild in that outing, however, as he failed to record an out and was charged with five earned runs after hitting three batters and walking two others. He's expected to open the season in the rotation at Triple-A St. Paul.
