Jacksonville is a five-point favorite when they host the Chargers at 1 p.m. on CBS today. It’s only the fourth time in 53 games in which the Jaguars are a favorite, as they go for three straight wins against the slumping Chargers. San Diego are losers of six straight games, but five of the losses are within one score.
The Chargers have the edge in this matchup historically, but these teams are trending in different directions. San Diego has won four straight meetings against Jacksonville, gaining over 400 yards of offense in each game. That doesn’t look to be the case Sunday, as Jacksonville has only surrendered over 400 yards once this season in a loss to the Patriots.

Don’t look now, but the Jaguars are going to be playing meaningful football in December. A win and some luck Sunday could see them enter the final month of the regular season with the top spot in the AFC South. They’ve been doing it with improved performances on all sides of the ball, and consistent play from QB Blake Bortles. The second-year passer has thrown a TD in every game this season, thanks to sure hands from Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns on the outsides.
For the San Diego Chargers, it’s been the exact opposite. The Chargers are crumbling beneath injuries, and haven’t won a game since October 4th. The worst came last week during a 30-point blowout to the Chiefs, when even Philip Rivers could only manage 178 passing yards.
As they have all season, the quarterbacks will determine the outcome on Sunday. Bortles has been consistent, but has also has three multi-interception games. The Jaguars are 0-3 in those contests.
