Full disclosure, this game doesn’t mean much.
Sure, the Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants are jockeying for a second place finish in the NFC East and Big Blue may be trying to save Tom Coughlin’s job with a Week 17 victory, but there’s not much either team can do to save their rather disappointing seasons at this point.
But here’s the thing. The Eagles don’t like the Giants. The Giants don’t like the Eagles. And there’s still one more week of football to be played. So these teams are certainly going to play it, because there is, at the very least, some pride on the line.
New York comes into the Sunday afternoon tilt as 3.5-point favorites according to sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark, but the Giants have done fared well in matchups against the Eagles.
Philadelphia is 7-1 ATS in its last eight trips to New York and 4-1 SU in its last five games in this NFC East rivalry matchup. Meanwhile, the Giants aren’t inspiring much betting-related confidence. New York is 1-5 SU in its last six games and just 4-8 SU in its last 12 games at home.
The big question for the Eagles? Can they play without Chip Kelly. Philadelphia announced it had fired its head coach after almost three seasons together and that leaves the direction of the team offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur. The Eagles offense has been up and down all season, but has at least shown flashes of strength. The defense is a different story and with Odell Beckham Jr. set to return for the Giants on Sunday, the key to a Philly victory is shutting down the standout receiver.
The total for Sunday afternoon’s matchup is set at 52 points according to the sportsbooks. The total has gone OVER in five of Philadelphia’s last six games and OVER in five of the last six games at MetLife Stadium. Meanwhile, the total has also gone OVER in seven of the Giants last nine games.
The OddsShark computer is predicting a 29.8 – 20 New York victory.
