Danny Amendola may be hearing from the NFL after this hit on Jamell Fleming.
Midway through the second quarter, the New England Patriots wide receiver was lined up as a punt returner, but when he didn’t field the ball, he absolutely leveled the unsuspecting Kansas City Chiefs cornerback in an attempt to deter him from downing the ball inside the five-yard line.
The play, which you can watch above, was flagged for unnecessary roughness. Most saw it as a dirty hit:
Amendola would be ejected if this was a college football game.
It only amounted to about a two-yard penalty (Kansas City did in fact down the ball), and the Pats marched down the field to score a touchdown on the subsequent drive, so Amendola’s penalty didn’t really hurt the team. It will be interesting, though, to see if the league decides to hurt his wallet.
