WATCH: David De Gea Injured During Warmups

If the training injury to Wayne Rooney wasn’t the worst possible thing to happen to United, this might be it. Shortly before the start of United’s Europa League match against Midtjylland, De Gea went down in warmups clutching his abdomen.

As you can see from the video, De Gea was fielding shots just minutes before the match in Denmark was scheduled to begin, but after making a low save went down holding his stomach.

Sergio Romero will start in De Gea’s place today. United does not have another goalkeeper on the bench for today’s match.

While United was struggling to figure out their attack this season, De Gea was the team’s savior in goal. His nine clean sheets in the Premier League this season are tied for third-best in England. Now he joins 11 other potential starters on the injury list including Rooney, whose knee injury will keep him out for at least the next six weeks.

Manchester United are outside the top four of Premier League, but have a short break to get healthy before they return to action. First they have two midweek fixtures with Midtjylland, followed by fifth-round FA Cup action against Shrewsbury.
