Danny Woodhead Injury Updates, Fantasy Value & Status

Danny Woodhead went down with an apparent knee injury early in the first half of the game against the Jaguars. He was carted off the field and was ruled out for the rest of the game. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Woodhead has torn his ACL. It is bad news for the Chargers who lost top wide receiver Keenan Allen for the season during last week’s game.

On Sunday, SiriusXM’s Alex Marvez reported the Chargers were hoping Woodhead only had an MCL sprain. If that were the case, the injury would not have been season-ending.

His absence leads to an uptick in touches for Melvin Gordon. The Chargers lost backup running back Brandon Oliver to injury in the preseason. The Chargers have rookie Kenneth Farrow and Andre Williams on their roster as well. Woodhead’s injury likely only impacts the fantasy value of Gordon.

Gordon had 24 carries against the Jaguars for 102 yards and a touchdown. He also had three receptions for 18 yards. Farrow was next in line with four carries for 13 yards.

Woodhead has become a fantasy favorite primarily because of his versatility. The Chargers use him a lot in the passing game which is especially valuable in PPR formats. Last week, Woodhead had 89 rushing yards along with 31 receiving yards and a receiving touchdown.
