All this took place before the actual trade deadline which is typically the busiest day of the year. Many star players have been mentioned in trade rumors including Carmelo Anthony, Jimmy Butler, Derek Rose and Ricky Rubio. Basketball Insider’s Steve Kyler reported that Anthony is unlikely to change teams as he seems resistant to accept a trade. Anthony has a no-trade clause that allows him to veto any trade he is involved in.

Rumors of Butler to the Celtics have heated up but the Celtics appear reluctant to include the young players the Bulls are looking for in return. NBA TV’s David Aldridge reports it is Jae Crowder who is the sticking point in the deal but believes the talks are legitimate.

The Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski created a flurry of rumors after he reported the Pacers are listening to offer on Paul George. He has an opt-out clause after the 2017-18 season, and the Pacers are unclear whether they have enough talent on the roster to keep him committed long-term.

The USA Today linked George to the Lakers given his Southern California roots. The article stipulates George will look at the Lakers in the 2018 free agency but does not specifically lay out a deadline deal. With all the the upheaval in the Lakers front office, it seems unlikely they would be able to pull off this size of a deal in the 11th hour.

The Derek Rose for Ricky Rubio trade rumors continue to swirl, but nothing has come of them so far. This trade between the Knicks and Timberwolves would reunite Tom Thibodeau with Rose. Thibodeau coached Rose during their time in Chicago.

Cleveland.com reported the Cavs are receiving a lot of interest in Iman Shumpert but noted Cleveland has not been impressed by anything teams have been offering in return. The report indicated the Cavs do have interest in Rockets point guard Patrick Beverley.

These are some of the biggest rumors with just hours remaining before the trade deadline. There are still plenty more to come as teams look to make a final move to improve their team.

Teams on the outside of the playoff race are looking to acquire picks in the 2017 NBA Draft given it is one of the deepest in recent memory. Meanwhile, contenders are looking to add one more piece to help them compete with the Warriors who are the team to beat in the postseason.
