It has been a busy few weeks for Canelo (whose real name is Saul) Alvarez and wife Fernanda Gomez leading up to the star’s massive fight versus Terence “Bud” Crawford. Back in August, Alvarez left his training to be with Gomez for the birth of the couple’s new daughter.
The birth occurred about one month before Alvarez’s showdown versus Crawford. According to Sports Illustrated, the new addition is Alvarez’s fifth kid and second child with Gomez.
“I left training to be at the birth of my daughter,” Alvarez told Daily Mail’s Charlotte Daly for a September 11, 2025, feature. “I received my daughter and everything was amazing.
“It was so beautiful. But then I had to go back to my training camp. It was incredibly hard to be away from them. Especially when she had just arrived but it made feel motivated. I do everything for them. I will win this fight for them.”

Gomez was featured in the Netflix documentary “Countdown Canelo vs. Crawford.” Alvarez’s wife revealed that she planned to be at the fight, even when the birth was believed to have happened closer to the match date. The couple wanted to have a natural birth and were not expecting the big event to happen until September.
“We don’t have an exact date because we want it to be a natural birth, but approximately around September,” Gomez revealed in Episode 1 of “Countdown Canelo vs. Crawford.”

Heading into Alvarez’s fight against Crawford, Gomez remained confident as she watched her husband’s preparation. Alvarez’s wife noted that the star boxer’s steadfast approach remains the same no matter the opponent.
“What gives me confidence is that he always makes me feel calm, because I see he’s very confident,” Gomez said during Episode 2 of “Countdown Canelo vs Crawford.” “He always prepares himself the same way, whether it’s a tougher rival or one that might be easier for him.
“He always prepares the same way. So that gives me the peace of mind.”

Both Alvarez and Gomez were born in Guadalajara, Mexico. Gomez has created a fanbase her own with 1.6 Instagram followers. Back in May, Gomez offered a heartfelt message to her husband.
“Proud of you❤️ putting Mexico’s name very high🇲🇽!!” Gomez noted in the May 4, message on X.
Gomez also took to social media to offer her husband birthday wishes back in July.
“Happy birthday to the king of our house ❤️ you are more than love 🤍,” Gomez said in a July 18, Instagram post. “We love you 🥰 for many more by your side 🎂.”
Canelo Alvarez Is Looking Forward to Spending Time With His Wife & Kids After the Fight vs. Terence Crawford
Aside from the new addition to the Alvarez family, the boxer has been focused on preparing to face Crawford in one of the more marquee boxing matches in recent years. Alvarez is looking forward to spending time with his wife and kids once the fight is completed.
“When I need to go to a training camp, they understand,” Alvarez told the Daily Mail. “It’s my job and we all get into that mindset when a fight comes around. Once I finish this fight, I will spend time with them.”
