The Arizona Diamondbacks have split the opening two games of their series against the Cincinnati Reds ahead of Sunday’s series finale.

Before the game, however, the Diamondbacks made some notable roster moves that they announced on social media.

As part of a corresponding move to activate right-handed pitcher Drey Jameson from the 15-day IL, Arizona designated right-hander Zack Littell for assignment. The Diamondbacks acquired Littell on Aug. 10.

The move removes Littell from Arizona’s 40-man roster and gives other teams seven days to claim him off waivers. If no team claims him, Arizona can keep him, trade him or release him into free agency.

Littell pitched 3.2 innings against the Reds on Saturday night, allowing eight hits, four earned runs and three home runs while walking two batters.

Littell’s MLB Career

The Seattle Mariners drafted Littell directly out of high school in 2013, and he made his MLB debut with the Minnesota Twins in 2018.

Littell has spent nine seasons in the majors, playing for the Twins, Boston Red Sox, Tampa Bay Rays, San Francisco Giants, Reds and Washington Nationals.

After spending time as both a starter and a reliever, Littell owns a 42-37 career record with a 4.11 ERA across 93 starts and 260 appearances.

D-Backs Right Now

Arizona is in the middle of a push for an NL Wild Card spot and enters Sunday with a 68-62 record. The Diamondbacks sit 11.0 games out of first place in the NL West but are just 2.0 games out of a Wild Card spot, trailing the San Diego Padres.

They’ll begin a three-game series against the Chicago Cubs at home on Monday night and are hoping to get star infielder Ketel Marte back soon after his abrupt placement on the restricted list and subsequent move to the 10-day IL. He is set to miss his sixth straight game on Sunday.
