On Wednesday night, the New York Mets will finish their three-game series with the Los Angeles Dodgers (in California).
A victory on Wednesday would avoid a sweep (and snap a seven-game losing skid).
One of the reasons for their recent struggles is that the Mets have been without their best player (Juan Soto).
Mets Announce Juan Soto Update
Before Wednesday’s game, manager Carlos Mendoza announced the latest on Soto.
Anthony DiComo of MLB.com wrote: “Juan Soto (calf) ran again today and took live BP against a minor league pitcher at Citi Field. The Mets are targeting their next homestand for his return. He won’t come back before that.”
Soto had been batting .355 with one home run, five RBI’s and three runs in his first eight games.
He is in his second season with the Mets.

Soto has also had stints with the Washington Nationals, San Diego Padres and New York Yankees over nine seasons.
The 27-year-old finished last season batting .263 with 43 home runs, 105 RBI’s, 120 runs and 38 stolen bases in 160 games.
He helped lead the Nationals to the 2019 World Series Championship.
Mets Right Now
The Mets are the last-place team in the National League East with a 7-11 record in 18 games.
They are 4-5 in the nine games they have played away from Citi Field.
After the Dodgers, the Mets are headed to Chicago for a series with the Cubs at Wrigley Field (that starts on Friday).
Despite Soto’s strong year, the Mets are coming off a season where they missed the 2025 MLB playoffs.
