The New York Mets have gone on a spending spree over the last week and are looking the part of a true World Series contender ahead of the 2026 MLB season.

Bo Bichette was the first move the Mets made in their recent flurry of additions. He will play third base for New York and will provide a much-needed bat for the lineup.

After that move was made, the Mets went out and pulled off a trade with the Chicago White Sox. In that move, New York was able to acquire outfielder Luis Robert Jr. He has elite potential, although he has yet to be able to rise to his ceiling.

Finally, the Mets pulled off a blockbuster trade with the Milwaukee Brewers to acquire ace starting pitcher Freddy Peralta. That was the move that put New York on the radar as a legitimate championship contender for this season.

New York Mets Could Double Down on Freddy Peralta Trade With $18.7 Million Signing

With those moves now being in the books for the Mets, fans are wondering whether or not the team is done this offseason. A new prediction has been made for the franchise that would see them spend even more money.

FanSided’s Christopher Kline has taken a look at predictions for remaining players in free agency. When it came to veteran starting pitcher Zac Gallen, he projected that New York would be the team to swoop in and sign him.

“The New York Mets need some stability in their rotation, and Zac Gallen is trending toward a manageable short-term deal. He bombed last season in Arizona, but finished strong enough, and he’s only a couple years removed from Cy Young contention,” Kline wrote.

“For a team in desperate need of veteran arms — or depth in general — Gallen feels like a nice cherry on top of a transformative offseason.”

Gallen would be a perfect follow-up move for the Mets after trading for Peralta. They could still use a bit more talent in their rotation to backup their ace.

Last season with the Arizona Diamondbacks, Gallen made 33 starts. He compiled a 13-15 record to go along with a 4.83 ERA, a 1.26 WHIP, a 2.7 K/BB ratio, and 192 innings pitched.

Those numbers don’t look great, but New York would be signing him hoping to help him get back to his form from a couple years back when he was one of the best pitchers in baseball.

What Would It Take for the Mets to Sign Gallen?

With the offseason the Mets have put together, there is reason for optimism. On paper, New York should be one of the best teams in baseball.

Adding another quality veteran pitcher like Gallen would be a wise move. The front office has already gone all-in on winning now. Bringing in Gallen would simply be doubling down.

Spotrac has projected that Gallen will require a contract worth around $18.7 million per season. There is no telling what length of contract he would want, but likely it would fall somewhere between two to four years.

This move may not end up happening, but it would make a lot of sense. Keep an eye on Gallen as a potential option for New York if the front office chooses to make one more aggressive addition.
