The NASCAR silly season may still be months away from fully exploding, but one of the sport’s biggest long-term questions is already starting to take shape: Where will Kyle Busch race in 2027?
Busch remains under contract with Richard Childress Racing through the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season, though ongoing inconsistency and visible frustration around the No. 8 team have continued fueling speculation about whether the two-time Cup Series champion could eventually move elsewhere.
According to longtime NASCAR insider Jordan Bianchi, however, the most realistic outcome may not involve a dramatic move at all.
During a recent discussion about NASCAR’s early 2027 driver market, Bianchi suggested Busch returning to Richard Childress Racing may ultimately be the most likely scenario on the table.

Speaking about Busch’s future, Bianchi explained that while the partnership between Busch and RCR has not always looked perfect, the current NASCAR landscape does not offer many obvious alternatives.
“Right now, it seems very likely that Kyle Busch is going to return to Richard Childress Racing in a contract extension,” Bianchi said.
The comments come as Busch continues searching for consistent speed against NASCAR’s powerhouse organizations, including Hendrick Motorsports, Team Penske, Joe Gibbs Racing, and 23XI Racing.
Despite Busch’s résumé, championship pedigree, and star power, Bianchi believes there simply is not a natural fit available elsewhere.
“You may be asking yourself, ‘Why would Kyle Busch return to Richard Childress Racing?’” Bianchi said. “A situation that doesn’t seem to be working based on their current result.”
But according to Bianchi, the alternatives may be even less appealing.
“Kyle Busch right now, looking at the current marketplace, there really isn’t a natural fit for him,” he explained. “Big teams that potentially could have openings, it doesn’t work. Hendrick Motorsports, 23XI, those kind of teams, Team Penske, there just isn’t a spot for him right there that fits.”
Bianchi also noted that any realistic move Busch could make might actually represent “a step back from his current situation.”

Busch joined Richard Childress Racing ahead of the 2023 season after his longtime tenure with Joe Gibbs Racing ended following primary sponsorship complications.
The move immediately looked like a success.
Busch won three races during his first season with RCR and quickly looked rejuvenated with the organization. Since then, however, maintaining that momentum has proven difficult as Busch and the No. 8 team have continued searching for week-to-week consistency.
At the same time, many of the destinations once floated by fans and analysts now appear less realistic.
Spire Motorsports previously generated speculation as a possible long-term option for Busch due to the organization’s aggressive growth and Chevrolet backing. But Carson Hocevar’s emergence as one of NASCAR’s rising stars, combined with the additions of Michael McDowell and Daniel Suárez, has significantly changed that outlook.
Meanwhile, most of NASCAR’s elite organizations appear relatively stable entering the next few seasons.
That leaves Busch in a fascinating position as the 2027 conversation begins building momentum.
Even if the partnership has not fully delivered the results either side hoped for, staying with Richard Childress Racing may ultimately remain the strongest path forward for one of NASCAR’s most accomplished modern-era drivers.
