Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo had been on a hot streak, but finished the game against the San Antonio Spurs shooting 5-17.

Bam Adebayo and the Miami Heat saw their 2025-26 season come to a difficult end Tuesday night.

The Heat fell to the Charlotte Hornets, 126-127, in the first of several thrilling play-in games across the NBA this week.

Miami’s loss felt more ruinous because of the back injury to Adebayo in the first half against. In a play that was rampantly discussed for days after the game, Adebayo sustained the injury after his momentum began pulling him backward as he attempted to corral a rebound.

As that was happening, Hornets guard LaMelo Ball was flat on the floor and appeared to grab at Adebayo’s ankle while the Heat star was falling toward his backside.

Adebayo exited the game shortly after and was unable to return. Ball was retroactively assessed a flagrant 2 foul for the play.

The feeling of a thrilling postseason victory didn’t last long for Charlotte. Last night, the team was dealt a 31-point loss by the Orlando Magic

Both Miami and Charlotte have some work to do this offseason, especially the Heat, who finished near the bottom of the Eastern Conference again.

Perhaps this summer may finally be the one Adebayo gets included in a package to return the Heat a nice haul.

Bam Adebayo to Charlotte? A New Trade Proposal Comes to Light

How about he joins the team who just ended his season?

Adebayo to the Hornets would be some drama if it happens. Bleacher Report’s Zack Buckley came up with a trade package that could benefit both sides.

Miami, which is looking for more draft capital, would stack some future assets. Charlotte, looking to build off a step in the right direction, would add a frontcourt star to the mix, making it all the more formidable in the East.

The trade:

  • Charlotte Hornets receive: Bam Adebayo
  • Miami Heat receive: Miles Bridges, Ryan Kalkbrenner, Josh Green, 2027 first-round pick (lottery protected, MIA’s own), 2028 first-round pick and 2030 first-round pick swap

Rationale:

“With Adebayo added to the starting five and [Moussa] Diabaté shifted into a more appropriate instant-energy reserve role, Charlotte could spin its center rotation from kinda, sorta solid to borderline spectacular,” Buckley wrote. “Pair that group with those perimeter stars, and you might have the backbone of basketball’s next heavyweight contender.”

Added Buckley: “At some point, the Heat must accept that a step backward might be necessary to clear the path for the future. Why not now? … Norman Powell is a free agent, Andrew Wiggins could be if he declines his player option, and Tyler Herro is now approaching the final guaranteed season on his contract.”

Which Team Benefits More?

At least for the short-term, the Hornets perhaps appear to gain more by adding Adebayo and unloading Bridges and some draft picks.

Bridges has been a nice staple for Charlotte since being drafted in 2018. He went from averaging less than eight points per game as a rookie to over 20 points per game in his fourth season. He has been productive, just not enough to change the franchise’s fortunes.

This season showed Bridges can be a part of a promising core along with Ball, rookie sensation Kon Knueppel and Brandon Miller, but moving Bridges for more frontcourt help could relive some of the logjam of ball-dominant perimeter players.

Adebayo would deliver much-needed rim protection and a steady low-post scoring option. The Hornets were a much above average defensive team this season. Lump that with the addition of Adebayo and they perhaps have something truly promising.

Not only that, Adebayo would bring a big man scoring option to pair with the electric Ball, who continues to improve his offensive penetration. Their pick-and-roll setup with sharpshooters in Knueppel and Miller hanging out on the perimeter sounds awfully effective.

Miami is in line to make some moves this summer, whether they are drastic or more marginal. Adebayo is a name that’ll be floated in plenty of trade rumors over the coming months.
