The Miami Heat is a team that is always looking to add superstar talent. They always try to jump into the fray in terms of trading for superstar talent. Those within the organization believe that they are a premier destination for players.

Giannis Antetokounmpo is going to be the biggest name available on the trade block this summer. He is set for a breakup with the Bucks this summer. Several teams will be vying to bring him in. Miami is widely considered to be one of the teams that can field a strong offer for him.

That doesn’t mean they will definitely have the best offer for him. In fact, one NBA analyst believes they should wait a year before trying to make a move on him.

Heat Urged to Wait Until 2027 to Trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo

ESPN’s Bobby Marks believes that Miami is better suited to wait until 2027 to make a play for Antetokounmpo. He cites cap space as the main roadblock to bringing him in this summer.

“Though waiting until the 2027 offseason is risky, Miami is projected to have enough cap space that summer to sign Antetokounmpo outright while retaining those young players and picks,” Marks wrote.

Right now, the Heat would have to move several players in order to have the space to bring him in. The roster isn’t good enough to just have Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo carry them to the playoffs. Adebayo is assured to be part of the Heat’s future, though.

However, it might be too risky to wait until 2027 to make a move for Antetokounmpo. Another team will almost certainly swoop in and trade for him. The moment to bring him in would be now if their goal is to keep Antetokounmpo from playing for another rival team.

Miami has to be Careful With its Trade Packages

While the Heat are trying to make a move now for next season, they have to make sure that they can make a good move, not just a swift one. The rest of the Eastern Conference is getting better next season. The Pacers will be back now that they are healthy. Boston will have Jayson Tatum fully healthy all year, as well.

With all of this transpiring, Miami has to figure out a way to stay competitive. They missed the playoffs this season, which doesn’t seem to bode well for their chances to make the postseason next year. Even with Antetokounmpo on the roster, they likely wouldn’t contend for a title next year.

Giving up too many first-round draft picks could hinder their ability to turn into contenders for a title in the near future. They also have to keep enough players around Antetokounmpo in the event he ends up with the Heat. The cupboard cannot be left bare.

If Miami can’t bring in Antetokounmpo, they could look elsewhere for a trade to make.
