For the first time since they took on the Kansas City Chiefs at London’s Wembly Stadium, the Detroit Lions are set to play a regular season game overseas. This time, they’re heading to Germany.

They’ll play starting at 9:30 a.m. ET from FC Bayern Munich Stadium in Munich as part of a triple-header. And while their opponent was thought to be a divisional rival, they’ll instead take on last season’s AFC Champion.

The Detroit Lions Will Play The New England Patriots In Germany On November 15

According to Lions Royalty on X, formerly known as Twitter, the Lions will face the New England Patriots in Munich.

It will be Detroit’s first time facing the Patriots since they were beaten soundly by a 29-0 final score in Week 5 of the 2022 NFL season at Gillette Stadium, in Foxborough, MA.

This will also be the third overseas game that the Lions have played in their history, but first in Germany. They mounted an incredible comeback effort against the Atlanta Falcons on Oct. 26, 2014, winning by a 22-21 final score thanks to a late Matt Prater field goal. But just over a year later on Nov. 1, 2015, they were beaten soundly by the Chiefs, 45-10. Both games were played in the United Kingdom at London’s Wembly Stadium.

Lions Star Wideout Amon-Ra St. Brown Is Excited To Play In Germany

Amon-Ra St. Brown, who holds dual citizenship between the United States and Germany because of his mother, is naturally looking forward to playing in Munich.

“I’m excited. I’ve seen videos. I’ve seen teams play there. I’ve asked players how it was playing in Germany and they all said, ‘Man, the fans are electric, they’re amazing,'” St. Brown said. “So, it’s going to be great just for me to be out there with my teammates, with them and my family to spend some time out there with them and to be able to play football in Germany, which has always been a dream of mine since I was a kid.”

“They asked if I wanted to come to this meeting, and I was like, ‘Hell yeah, I want to come.’ This is going to be a cool opportunity to be in front of all these people and talking to them,” St. Brown said. “But just talking about being a global ambassador, being able to play in Germany, what it means and how important that is.

St. Brown and his two brothers made multiple trips to Germany growing up, and he’s fluent in the language. He’s also excited about the possibilities of football fandom growing in the country.

“The appetite is growing fast, and I’ve seen it firsthand. I go out there and have my camps out there, and there’s people that actually recognize me in Germany, which I think it’s crazy because I know how big soccer is and I know how big that sport is over there and for there to be fans and even jerseys in sports shops, like football jerseys, is crazy,” St. Brown said. “I’m just grateful, I’m happy and I’m honored that football will be played in Germany and we’ll be part of that.”
