The Green Bay Packers have to think about where Jordan Morgan lands in a vital roster assignment heading into the 2026 season.
The former first-round pick moved into the starting left tackle job after spending his first two NFL seasons bouncing between guard and tackle.
With Jordan Love behind him and Rasheed Walker gone in free agency, Green Bay needed Morgan to show that a permanent move to the blind side could work.
His latest preseason test afforded an promising answer.
An Aug. 23 PackersNews film review by Eric Baranczyk found that Morgan won all three of his one-on-one pass-blocking matchups against Nik Bonitto, one of the NFL’s more productive edge rushers. Bonitto recorded 14 sacks last season after posting 13.5 in 2024.
The sample was small, but the quality of the opponent made it worthy.
Morgan is beginning to hand Green Bay reason to believe its big offensive-line doubt may be settling down before Week 1.

Baranczyk wrote that the “ultimate test” for an NFL tackle is handling a top pass rusher without help, and Morgan received exactly that opportunity against Bonitto in Green Bay’s Aug. 21 preseason win over the Denver Broncos.
Morgan didn’t allow Bonitto to win any of their three isolated pass-rush battles, according to the Aug. 23 film review.
That’s great news considering Bonitto has developed into a consistent problem for opposing tackles. The Denver edge defender has 37 sacks across four NFL seasons, including 27.5 over the past two years.
Preseason performances come with obvious limitations.
Starters play reduced snaps, game plans are vanilla and teams rarely show everything they intend to use when the regular season begins. Morgan still had to execute against a player with the speed and pass-rushing ability to expose weaknesses quickly.
The result continues an trending-upward August for the 24-year-old.
Morgan also drew positive reviews after Green Bay’s preseason opener against Pittsburgh. His role has become clearer than it was during his first two seasons, when injuries elsewhere along the line routinely pushed him between positions.
Packers.com noted before training camp that Morgan started 37 games at left tackle at Arizona. The Packers spent his first two professional seasons taking advantage of his versatility before finally giving him a full-time chance at the position he knows best.

Green Bay’s offensive line has moving pieces regardless of Morgan’s outcome.
The guard spots have remained competitive throughout camp, and PackersNews noted in the same film review that the interior picture is undecided.
Meanwhile, Love is entering another season with championship expectations surrounding the roster. Keeping the front of the pocket clean becomes much easier when the offense can trust its left tackle without consistently devoting extra protection to that side.
Walker’s departure created a calculated gamble, declining to bring back the player who had handled the job and instead turned the position over to a former first-round selection with limited NFL experience at left tackle.
So far, Morgan is rewarding that decision.
The Packers have a preseason finale against Arizona before the regular season begins, and far more strenuous tests will arrive once defensive coordinators start building weekly pressure plans.
Morgan’s work against Bonitto doesn’t finalize that position for an entire season obviously.
But it does, however, present Green Bay with further evidence that its new left tackle is ready for the assignment.
