New New England Patriots safety Jaylen Reed spoke candidly in a message after joining his new team, thanks to a trade from the Houston Texans for Kayshon Boutte.
Reed, a sixth-round pick in 2025, was a starter for the Texans during their two games in the 2025 postseason, too. Now, he gets a fresh start with the team that eliminated his old one from the playoffs.
The two squads could meet again, and in a similar situation.

Reed sent his message via his Instagram story, setting it to artist Rod Wave’s “Long Journey,” and made it clear he is keeping his head high and is optimistic about the future.
“God Don’t make no mistakes, I’m grateful for the Texans taking a Opportunity on me,” Reed posted on Instagram on August 24. “Thankful for all my brothers and relationships i’ve made in Houston.. Forever hold a strong part in my heart..
“Let’s do it #PatsNation.”
In a more personal sign-off, Reed added, “Everything Happens for a reason Im In God’s Hands 23 Gone be straight..”
The Texans selected Reed 187th overall in 2025, and he played in seven games as a rookie, logging six during the regular season before suffering his injury in his final appearance. His return for the postseason was encouraging for his future.
However, the Texans signed Reed Blankenship in free agency this offseason
That all but put the writing on the wall that Reed could at least be available for the right offer. Landing Boutte also solves a big need. Still, it is clear Reed had plenty of emotions about it.

In the end, the Texans surrendered Reed and a Day 3 draft pick to the Patriots for Boutte, with the deal looking like this:

This is a minimal cost for the Texans, but there is a hidden due as well. Boutte is in the final year of his contract and will want to be rewarded for outplaying his draft slot. Whether the Texans will be the ones to do it could depend on him continuing that in Houston.
