While Travis Kelce is deciding whether to return to the Kansas City Chiefs and continue his NFL career, his wife-to-be, Taylor Swift, is earning some indirect praise for preparing for another major sporting event.
Kelce has not yet decided whether to retire or come back to the Chiefs on a new contract, saying he would take some time before reaching a decision. He does have another big event on the horizon, with rumors that his wedding to Swift is coming up in a matter of months.
While the two are heavy in planning for the event, Swift may have helped another city prepare for a big event of its own.
Taylor Swift Helped Usher in World Cup
As the greater Los Angeles area prepares to host the start of soccer’s World Cup, Inglewood Mayor James Butts Jr. said Swift’s presence helped the city prepare for the massive event.
Swift has played at SoFi Stadium for her record-breaking Eras Tour in 2023, which Butts cited as an example of the city handling events on a massive scale.
“In his interview with TMZ, Mayor James Butts Jr shared how Taylor Swift’s popularity gives him strong hopes for the FIFA World Cup 2026,” Mandatory reported. “He stated how federal presence will be added to Inglewood’s ‘robust public safety matrix.’ The politician reflected how he is confident in the place, thanks to the ‘Bad Blood’ singer hosting her concerts over the years. Besides Swift, he mentioned the craze of Beyoncé’s shows in Inglewood.”
Chiefs Communicating With Travis Kelce on Retirement Decision
It’s not clear if Swift will have many Chiefs games to attend in the future, with Kelce still not announcing a decision for 2026. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid told reporters last week that the two sides have been in contact, with the team still giving space to the future Hall of Fame tight end to make his decision.
“There is communication. That’s the main thing,” Reid said. “That means people want to move forward. I think that’s where Trav is. I’m not trying to put words in his mouth at all, and I try to give him some space here. He’s been doing this a long time, and he can sort all that out as he goes forward. We’re proceeding with that, and there is communication.”
Kelce has given some hints that he could be returning for another season. He spoke glowingly of returning offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, saying he was excited to start working with him again — a strong indication that he could be in the building in 2026.
“I can’t wait to see him back in the building,” Kelce said. “He’s one of my favorite coaches of all-time, one of my favorite people of all time. I’ve had so many unbelievable growing moments under him as a player, as a person, and I just love the guy and it’s going to be awesome to see him back in the building and see him back wearing the Chiefs logo, baby.”
Kelce could have further motivation after the team’s disappointing exit, with the Chiefs missing the playoffs for the first time in more than a decade.
