Luther and the Steelers agreed on a contract Tuesday, Alan Saunders of SteelersNow.com reports. Luther worked out for the Steelers on Aug. 4 and he'll now officially join the team at practice. The wide receiver could be a viable option as return specialist with Pittsburgh in 2024.
Williams (shoulder) played 10 offensive snaps during Friday's 20-12 preseason loss to the Texans. Williams suffered an AC sprain during practice in late July, but he was available for the Steelers' first preseason matchup. He wasn't targeted in the loss but will have two more opportunities during the preseason to make a case for a roster spot.
Fautanu (knee) is expected to miss two weeks due to a sprained MCL, Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Fautanu suffered an MCL sprain in Friday's preseason loss to Houston, but it appears that he could be recovered by the time the regular season begins. The 23-year-old could work his way up to a starting role when healthy after being taken with the 20th overall pick in April's NFL Draft.
Lowry (pectoral) returned to the team from the active/PUP list Sunday. Lowry was placed on the list July 24. The defensive end signed with the Steelers in March after being released by the Vikings earlier that month. The veteran played in nine games last year before tearing his pectoral muscle and missing the rest of the season.
The Steelers placed Fehoko (arm/shoulder) on injured reserve Saturday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Fehoko was dealing with arm and shoulder injuries that forced him to leave Wednesday's practice. Now that he's been placed on IR, the 27-year-old will be forced to miss the entire 2024 season unless he reaches an injury settlement with Pittsburgh. His last NFL action was in 2022 with the Chargers, when he recorded 23 tackles (10 solo) in nine regular-season games.
Fautanu (knee) suffered an MCL sprain in Friday's 20-12 preseason loss to the Texans, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports. Fautanu was selected 20th overall by the Steelers in this year's NFL Draft. Thus, he projects to have an impact on the team's offensive line when healthy. It remains to be seen how long he will be sidelined with his current MCL sprain.
Elliott (lower body) recorded one tackle during Friday's 20-12 preseason loss to the Texans. Elliott was carted off the field during Wednesday's practice session due to a lower-body injury, but he started during Friday's preseason opener. As long as he can remain healthy ahead of the regular season, he appears to be the favorite to start at strong safety this year after signing a two-year contract with the Steelers in March.
