Angel Reese has been traded by the Chicago Sky to the Atlanta Dream.

With the WNBA season about one month away from starting on May 8, 2026, the league created quite a buzz as Angel Reese has been traded in a blockbuster deal. Reese joins the Atlanta Dream as the Chicago Sky landed two future first-round picks in exchange for the star.

It did not take long for Reese to react to the trade. While WNBA fans may have been surprised, it appears Reese was prepared.

Reese immediately took to social media posting a photo of herself wearing an Atlanta uniform just minutes after news broke of the deal. Judging by her initial reaction, it appears Reese is thrilled to have a fresh start with the Dream in 2026.

“An Angel’s DREAM💭,” Reese noted in an April 6, post shared on both Instagram and X. “🅰️TL WHAT UP?! @AtlantaDream.”

Here’s what you need to know about Reese’s move to Atlanta.

Angel Reese Appears Thrilled by Stunning WNBA Trade Between Atlanta Dream & Chicago Sky

Reese is already attempting to help her new team sell tickets. The WNBA star reposted the Dream’s message about tickets for sale.

It appears Reese will wear the No. 5 in Atlanta, at least based on her initial social media post. After a 2025 season full of drama with Chicago, Reese left the door open to playing for a new team.

“I am very vocal about what we need and what I want,” Reese told the Chicago Triune in September 2025, per CBS Sports.

“I’d like to be here for my career, but if things don’t pan out, obviously I might have to move in a different direction and do what’s best for me.”

What Did Atlanta Trade Chicago for Angel Reese?

Reese is the only player involved in the blockbuster Dream-Sky trade. The WNBA announced that Atlanta is trading two future first-round picks to Chicago in exchange for Reese.

“TRADE ALERT:The @chicagosky trades the contract of Angel Reese and the right to swap the teams’ own 2028 2nd round draft picks to @atlantadream in exchange for Atlanta’s own 2027 1st round draft pick and Atlanta’s own 2028 1st round draft pick,” the WNBA detailed in an April 6, message on X.

Angel Reese Joins a Loaded Atlanta Dream Roster Alongside Brittney Griner, Allisha Gray & Brionna Jones

Atlanta already had a loaded roster and now potentially puts the Dream in the WNBA championship conversation. Reese joins Allisha Gray, Brionna Jones, Rhyne Howard and Brittney Griner among other stars in Atlanta.

Opposing teams are going to find it challenging to grab rebounds against the Dream’s frontcourt. Reese averaged 14.7 points, 12.6 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.5 steals per game in 30 starts during the 2025 season.

Sky general manager Jeff Pagliocca previously expressed optimism that Reese would be part of the Sky moving forward.

“Angel is an ascending young talent in this league who’s had two very, very good seasons here in Chicago,” Pagliocca noted in September 2025, per ESPN’s Alexa Philippou. “Obviously we went through what we did. I feel like we closed the chapter on it. She spoke to her teammates.

“She spoke publicly. We moved on as a team. She’s a special player. And I have good conversations with Angel daily, with her team daily. They’re constant, and they’re productive.”
